The space

Situated on a quiet country lane in the heart of the East Sussex countryside, Hope Cottage is quaint 2 bedroom guesthouse with a country-chic feel. Hope Cottage is set within the boundaries of my own property – known as Crink House – and you would have the entirety of Hope Cottage to yourself.

The property is a 2 bedroom house (sleeps up to 4 people). On the ground floor is the second bedroom, with two twin beds, a bathroom with WC and shower, the open-plan kitchen-living-dining room with a wood-burning fireplace and private patio. Up the stairs allows you to walk straight into the master bedroom, which has an ensuite with a bath and WC as well as the little den.

I have decorated Hope Cottage with as much care as my own home; with crispy linen sheets and huggable towels, scrumptious Aesop and L’Occitane bath products, a cosy living room and of course plenty of wine glasses! In summer, you can sit out on the candle-lit patio (with privacy thanks to the surrounding hedge) or come winter, you can curl up under a blanket on the sofa with the wood-burning fire place on the go – perfect for warming cold toes after a bracing walk.

There is plenty of room in our driveway to park a car or two and there are some fantastic country walks to be had in and around the local area. Even jumping over the back fence of the property will provide you with a beautiful walk amongst fields of wheat and corn and down to the gentle stream two fields down, or up towards the nearby reservoir. We are so lucky in that we have wonderful views across the countryside as we are up on Crink Hill. The nearby River Ouse meanders through the countryside towards us at Barcombe Mills, a popular place with locals in the summer, where you can rent rowing boats at the popular Anchor Inn pub. Towards the South are the famous South Downs and Lewes (10 mins drive), a wonderful town further down the River Ouse, which is full of great coffee shops and restaurants, wonderful antique stores and of course, the local Harvey’s brewery.

We have 2 friendly dogs – Milly the springer spaniel and Bob the cocker spaniel – who you may see pottering around from time to time.

Getting around

Our nearest village is Barcombe Cross - a short walk up the road with a few local pubs. The famous Glyndebourne Opera House is a scenic 10 minute drive away and the vibrant city of Brighton & Hove is a 30 minute drive from ours, or you can get the train from Lewes.

Other things to note

For enquiries, please note that I work full time at a nearby hospital so will respond no later than 8pm on the day of your enquiry. I hope to welcome you to my little guesthouse in the near future!

We spent Easter weekend at Louise's place, and had a very good time. The cottage is well-appointed, there is ample parking, lovely outdoor seating, good internet. I had some groceries delivered to the place, and Louise was so helpful to receive them and put them in the fridge, she also left some basic groceries including her own home-made marmelade for us! The place is very rural and quaint, just as we like it, yet it is possible to walk into Barcombe for a drink at the local pub (about 15-20 minutes, and reflective vest advised, as there is no footpath along the street). Beautiful countryside all around, including the River Ouse.

A delightful cottage in the countryside. Just what the family needed for a break from everyday life. The beds we're comfortable and I enjoyed having a bath in the streaming morning sunshine. The little touches made arrival a pleasure. Thanks

We very much enjoyed our weekend visit to Hope Cottage. Louise made us feel very welcome and there was everything in the cottage that we required. It is a lovely tranquil spot and we would certainly like to stay again for a longer visit in a lovely part of the country.

Response from Louise:
I contest everything written by this guest. In two years of being I airbnb host I have never had to deal with so much destruction left by a guest. I would not recommend them

Mother of two sets of twins (all grown up now!), Aussie ex-pat but proud supporter of any England sporting team. I have travelled extensively and love to try new things. I love great food and wine. At my happiest when I'm at home with all my babies.
