That's right – no up-front pet fees.

We are pet owners and don't like paying non-refundable pet fees if our dogs didn't do anything wrong. We're going to pay it forward and give this a shot, so please help us keep this a fee-free zone. Please pick up after your pet and be courteous to the space. Additional fees will only be added if there is damage to the house, theft, or pet waste isn't cleaned up or requires professional cleaning.

Guests without pets are welcome, too! :)

The space
This 2-bedroom house was built in 1956 and has been completely remodeled, inside and out.

THE BEACH IS 20 MINUTES OR MORE FROM THE HOUSE, DEPENDING ON TRAFFIC. PLEASE SEE LOCATION SECTION ON LISTING FOR MORE INFO.

In order to thoroughly clean the house between guests we are currently unable to accommodate early check-in or late check-out.

Due to an increase in theft we have started taking a time stamped video of the entire contents of the house before each guest arrives (including closets, cabinets, and drawers). We are able to easily determine exactly who stole what. Please do not steal from me. You will be caught.

Be sure to look at the location information before you book to ensure the house is where you want to be. The house is in a residential neighborhood next to a commercial zone near the shipyard. While it is very close to downtown and Greenfield lake, it isn't within walking distance to shops, cafés, etc.

When you book please only include humans in your guest count. Pets don’t count as actual guests when booking. I just need to know if you’re bringing pets or not in the booking message. An accurate guest count ensures my cleaning staff leaves you enough goodies. :)

This is a chemical free house. I can't be around man-made chemicals or I get sick with migraine and seizures. Please do not spray any perfume or cologne in the house in order to keep this a chemical free zone for other guests that have the same issue and for me when I stay there.

There is no limit on the number of pets you can bring. All responsible pet owners are welcome. I just ask that you clean up after them and be vigilant about letting them out in a timely manner. I don’t want my final interaction with a guest to be sending them a pet waste fee.

HOUSE RULE REMINDER: All pets must be crated when you are not at the house. You cannot leave the backdoor open so they hopefully let themselves out so you don’t have to come back to do it. I’m on to you rascals! Someone could steal your dog, your stuff, and my stuff. You will be required to leave immediately if you’re caught (the neighbor's can see when doggies are in the backyard and in the windows waiting for you to come home). I also get a notification on my phone when you lock or unlock the door. I will know if you have left them alone for too long. ;)

We also encourage guests without pets to book. You folks are welcome, too! :)

Discounts:
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Any reservation for 14 nights or more will automatically receive a 25% discount on the nightly rate.

Parking:
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Free parking on property. Two spaces for large vehicles; four spaces if you have small vehicles. Street parking also available.

Living Room:
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
The TV has Netflix and Hulu + HBO for your use. I do not have cable.

The top of the coffee table lifts up so you can watch TV while you eat.

There will be blankets on the furniture. Please keep these in place.

You will find some books on the white shelf and under the coffee table for your reading pleasure. They are some of my favorite books ranging from the classics to humor and history (I’m a bit of a nerd). Please enjoy them while visiting. :)

We also have a large pet bed and metal crate (crate is collapsed in the utility room).

Kitchen:
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, silverware, cups, mugs, and non-reactive cookware (stainless, glass, cast iron). There are basic cooking food stuffs like salt, pepper, organic olive oil, organic sugar, organic spices, snacks, creamer for coffee, etc.

The refrigerator has filtered water and an ice maker.

On the counter you will find a coffeemaker and a coffee bean grinder. There is always organic coffee in the fridge for your enjoyment. Organic tea bags are also available. Tea pot is on the stove. Be sure to fill the pot at least half way when making hot tea. You will also find some craft beer in the fridge, which is there for you! :)

There is an outlet in the kitchen beside the coffee maker with USB ports for charging your devices.

NO MICROWAVE – just a toaster and oven/stove.

Bathroom:
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
All hair and skin care products are organic and chemical free. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, lotions, extra toothbrushes, hair dryer, and more will be provided should you forget anything.

There is a bluetooth speaker in the ceiling fan.

A beach umbrella, beach towels, and a beach blanket are on the floor in the linen closet.

Bedrooms:
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Both beds have a Sealy pillow top mattress. We ask that you bring clean blankets to cover the beds if you plan to let your pets on them.

There is an essential oil diffuser and oils to sample.

The bedrooms have a TV with Netflix and Hulu + HBO for your use. I do not have cable.

The lamps on the night stands all have a power outlet in the back to easily charge your devices.

Backyard:
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
The yard is completely fenced in. Yes, it’s really fenced in. I promise. There is also a dog washing station.

Please enjoy the fire pit responsibly and do not use it if it is really windy. We keep fire wood stocked for your use. There is a box of dry tinder and kindling in the shed to help get your fire going.

If you would like to grill food there is charcoal and a grill to place over the fire pit in the shed.

Smoking is allowed outside only. Please dispose of your cigarette butts in the fire pit.

Be aware of the neighbors and keep noise low. Music is fine outside; just be respectful. Doggies should not be left to bark for long periods of time and never left tied or unattended outside if you are not at the house.

Compulsory Fees:
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
There is a one-time cleaning fee of $80. I’ve had some folks inquire about why it is higher than some other listings. Here’s why:

- This is an entire house, not a hotel room or a private room in someone’s house. The entire house must be thoroughly cleaned after each guest, which takes no less than three hours if one person is cleaning.

- My house is an upscale rental that focuses on pampering the guest. I supply a lot of extra amenities like organic snacks, toiletries, craft beer, essential oils, etc that have to be monitored and restocked for each guest, which takes time.

- I pay my people a living wage and it’s a lot of work to keep the house the way I want it for my guests.

- Some hosts clean the property themselves and sacrifice their time, which allows them to lower their cleaning fee. I don’t live in Wilmington so I have to have someone clean for me.

I also charge $5 per guest, per night after two guests to offset the additional laundry that is required.

Any additional fees on your booking are for the occupancy tax (you would pay this same tax at a hotel because it is required by law) and Airbnb’s service fee to run their website. Hosts have no control over these fees and they should not be factored into your review (your review gets applied to the listing, not Airbnb itself).

TIP: Those looking for long-term stays in North Carolina can avoid the obscenely high occupancy tax by booking 90 days or more. ;)

Pet Waste, Damage, or Theft:
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Cleaning up after your pet is essential. Fees will be added as follows:

$5 per poo violation
$25 per urination cleaning

We understand that accidents happen. That is why we even have a steam cleaner there for use if needed. However, not telling us about the incident is not cool. We need to know about it so we can ensure it has been professionally cleaned.

Any theft or damage to the house, including pet waste, will be assessed and fees applied accordingly. This is not something I want to do and I will be fair. Please return the gesture so we can all have a beautiful and clean place to chill with our furry buddies. :)

Where you’ll be

Wilmington, North Carolina, United States

The house is in a residential neighborhood next to a commercial zone near the shipyard. While it is very close to downtown and Greenfield lake, it isn't within walking distance to shops, cafés, etc.

Greenfield Lake is very close and is a great place to take your pup for a walk or see a concert.

Downtown Wilmington is about 10 minutes away depending on traffic.

Wrightsville beach and Carolina beach are both about 20 minutes in normal traffic.

In the summer it can take longer than these estimates to get somewhere due to tourist traffic.

If you want something closer to the beach re-do your search for Wrightsville beach or Carolina beach.

The Saga of the Ugly Building:

There is an ugly building on the other side of the street (beside the house), which I offered to pay to repair. The owner couldn’t have been more rude about the gesture. So we ignore that ugly building and go right on with our good time. It has not impeded our ability to have fun at the house in any way whatsoever. Please be aware of this if you are a guest that requires no ugly buildings in the vicinity.

UPDATE:

I went to the house to do some maintenance (June 6, 2021) and to my utter astonishment and delight a professional graffiti artist had started painting a beautiful mural on the wall of the building. I’ve posted a photo teaser in the listing photos (at the very end). He has since finished the mural and it looks fantastic.
