Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
An ideal retreat for family get-togethers with perfect privacy, spectacular views, 5 comfortable suites, friendly staff, event-ready bbq, and infinity pool - all within a short drive of the white sands of Diani beach.

The space
Pumzika-tu, meaning ‘just relax’ in Swahili, brings peace and serenity to your stay. Ideal for families, romantics, lone wanderers and corporate teams alike, this magical destination offers you relaxation and adventure to meet your desires, set against some of Kenya’s most hidden treasures.

Leave the comfort of your bed if only for breakfast above the clouds, an aperitif overlooking the elephants, or a romantic candle-lit meal. The Pumzika-tu staff are on-hand to create your dream vacation, and to help you craft memories you’ll treasure forever.

We look forward to inviting you to a home truly unlike any other. As elephants wonder through your garden, monkeys sip from your pool, locals present you fresh fruit, and the aromas of fine food and cocktails emerge on your balcony, you will know you have found a new home.

Where you’ll be

Kwale, Kwale County, Kenya

The local town of Kwale - 10 min driving - hosts a colorful fruit and clothing market each week. You can also find basic groceries, drinks, supplies and an ATM here.

The Mwaluganje elephant sanctuary, on which the house sits, can be entered by car for a guided or unguided tour through this home to 500+ protected elephants. The Shimba Hills Nature Reserve is also in close proximity, where you'll find giraffe, zebras, various deer species, monkeys, crocodiles, and leopards. We can also organize a local guide to bring you to the majestic waterfall a 20-30 minute hike from the house, passing rare plant species used for a variety of medicinal or practical purposes in Africa.

30 minutes away is the beach town of Diani, offering excellent restaurants of all kinds, bars and nightlife, kite surfing, shopping and more. We highly recommend spending a day here at least.

Slightly further afield are the Tsavo East wildlife sanctuaries, the Shimoni caves, and snorkeling or SCUBA diving at the marine park.

I am an entrepreneur, started a Flying Taxi Company at age 23, moving on to fly for East African Airways, and Freddie Laker. I then started an IT company which was very successful. After sailing away, my wife and I are back at work with my IT Trainng and Outsourcing Company in Kenya, Tuneweza. As well as an entrepreneur, I am a writer, Silver C gliding pilot and sailor. My wife was a Child Psychotherapist, am retired and she helped me with an IT business in Kenya called Tuneweza, this is training, placing and a social niche platform. We have also sailed our Catana 47 from the Mediterranean to Alaska and down to Mexico and across to French Polynesia and finally Fiji. I like books, animals, nature, cycling, swimming, walking and old/wise people and children. I am a Silver C glider and I have a Yacht Master's qualification. I was an airline pilot before moving into the IT world. I also writes books and articles and despite being a busy entrepreneur. My Czech/German Shepherd is called Indy and I have a cat called Megabyte (who is always hungry) and a wild cat that has adopted us in Shimba Hills, Diani Beach, which our guests have called Vasiliya. We own a 100 year old Dutch sailing barge in London as our home. We are now living in Kenya. The house, Pumzikatu, on Airbnb belonged to my sister who tragically died, and we try to keep it going for her children, David Champion, who lives in New York and Dr. Thalia Hipkins, who lives in Bristol.
