Brea Manor was built in 1634, Grade II listed and mentioned in the Doomsday Book which confirms its use for many years prior to William the Conqueror’s invasion. Recorded as one of only six manor houses that were in Penwith at the time of the Civil War, Brea is thought to be the oldest of the manors still standing. The current house was built by Charles Ellis and completed in 1634. The Ellis family were Quakers and staunch Royalists and it is said that Charles Ellis provided sanctuary to the 16 year old Charles Stuart during his escape to France via the Isles of Scilly. The property has huge charm and retains many original features.
