The Stableyard rests in the wing of Moone Abbey, a beautiful Palladian Georgian house (c. 1750), and is an idyllic, cosy retreat, with bright room leading out through French doors into an atmospheric private courtyard and the ruins of a medieval towerhouse. Perfect for couples seeking a romantic countryside escape or solo travellers looking for a peaceful, sheltered, and inspiring base within easy reach of Dublin city, and the gardens and castles of rural Ireland.
The space
Hidden in rural County Kildare, yet only about 50 minutes from Dublin Airport, the Stableyard offers an elegant escape you won’t find in guidebooks. Nestled in the western wing of Moone Abbey, a Palladian Georgian manor house dating to around 1750, it’s surrounded by the remains of a medieval Tower the 8th-century Moone High Cross—one of Ireland’s grandest—and the gentle River Greese winding through the grounds.
Inside, this 70 m² ground-floor apartment blends clean, understated design with warm, book-lined corners and a well-equipped kitchen perfect for preparing a morning breakfast using eggs from our farm. High-speed Wi-Fi and a bright, comfortable living space make it equally suited to relaxed weekends or longer stays where you might mix quiet workdays with countryside exploration.
Step outside into the walled garden at first light, take a quiet swim in our private stretch of the river, or enjoy a pint at the nearby pub — peaceful comfort with an idyllic setting.

Guest access
Moone Abbey is both a working farm and a private home, and we’re delighted to share part of it with you. The main block (where we live) and west wing are private, and for everyone’s safety (and the health of our animals), the main farmyard is closed to visitors.
You’re welcome to wander the surrounding farmland trails — a lovely way to enjoy the countryside — but please note that some fields may have cattle or other large animals. For your safety, please only enter these fields with our permission.
Access to Moone Abbey and its grounds is reserved for registered guests, so you can enjoy the peace and privacy of your stay.
Other things to note
The entire apartment is on the ground floor and is fully wheelchair accessible (even if Airbnb won't accept my photos!).
