In-city, residential neighborhood retreat -- downtown minutes away! Enjoy the best of in-city and residential neighborhoods, in a sweet, spacious studio with kitchen, private entrance, and all the amenities.

The space

In this welcoming space, you'll be across the street (plenty of on-street parking!) from a great little park, and just up the hill from a walkable storefront neighborhood with boutiques, bakeries, restaurants, and a day spa. Some of the best restaurants in Seattle are within a five-minute walk...Crush, Tallulah's, Harvest Vine, Cafe Flora...or dine in -- the kitchen is fully stocked with the basics for home cooking. When you've eaten your fill, hit the YMCA just 5 blocks over, where a day membership gets you access to all of their equipment, yoga classes, and swimming pool. Those of you who like consistency with your travel will find a Starbucks and a Safeway only 3 blocks away :-)

The unit has a queen bed (extra firm with built-in pillow top) with box spring. In addition, a twin-size futon (fold-out) can accommodate a third person.

Your own private entrance means you can come and go at any time, with no worries of disturbing anyone. Flying in late? No problem! Just let us know, and we will happily stash a key for you.

We can't wait to help you love your time in Seattle!

For those with accessibility issues: There are 12 stairs leading up to the front yard, then seven leading down to the unit.

NOTE: We love being able to offer a high-quality place in central Seattle with more amenities than a hotel (full kitchen! free parking!) at less than half the price. In order to avoid charging a cleaning fee, we ask that guests do a few move-out tasks -- strip the bed, start a load of laundry, sweep the floor, empty the trash. If you'd prefer to just pay a fee, let us know and we can add a $30 one-time fee to your stay.

Also - please note that the bathroom has a shower with good water pressure, but no tub.

Anthony was a great host, very communicative with helpful information. The listing is spot on in terms of our expectations going into it and was a good neighborhood to be in for visiting many areas of the city. We would definitely stay here again in the future!

Our stay was great! We tried several places that Margot mentioned and loved them. If I were to move to Seattle, Capitol Hill would be my first choice. We were able to walk to lots of our 'have to see places'.

Lovely little neighborhood with some great restaurants/coffeeshops within 15 minutes walk. Be aware that this area is hilly, so if you have mobility issues it might not be the right place for you. The price is great and the hosts are generally pretty responsive. Do be aware that when we were there we had ants that invaded the kitchen and bathroom. They were there every day we were, despite traps. However, I do think it's tied to the time of year (we were there in late August) and not probably always an issue. The chickens definitely add to the experience. They will cluck at 6 AM sometimes, but we always found them charming and they only added to the experience. They also have laundry! For free!!! Great amenity for travelers. Also note that there is no TV, which might matter to some more than others. We used our tablet and were fine, especially as the WiFi was fast ;-).

We had a great time staying here while on a fun/work trip. The space was great--it's the lower level of a house, with a bedroom/living area spacious enough for two, a small table for work and meals, and a usable kitchen area. Margot and Anthony were very communicative during our entire stay, and very gracious. The location is lovely. We had a car for longer excursions, but there were plenty of nice restaurants and cafes we could walk to when we didn't want to find parking.

Hi there,

Margot is your basic decent person - mother, three kids, job in high tech, writer. She bites her nails, but does not cheat at Scrabble or break other people's things.

Anthony likes to exercise, watch movies, and do good works.

You'll see many of our reviews are of Margot & Ivy -- Margot and Anthony's youngest daughter. Margot & Ivy started being Airbnb hosts in 2012, as Ivy's first job. We had a great time, but Ivy is now spending 10th grade in Costa Rica, so Anthony has been pressed into service :) With our nest now (temporarily) empty, we're renting both our original Airbnb, the separate apartment "Lovely Garden Studio" as well as a bedroom in our own home.

p.s. If you want to know more about your hosts. . .Margot's memoir, "Paradise Imperfect: An American family moves to the Costa Rican mountains" was recently released by Yellow House Press -- you can find or at your local independent bookseller. In addition, Margot's take on Washington's Marriage Equality law was recently published in the New York Times - you can read it by searching on "margot page modern love".
