Syke Barn is a self catering annexe joined to Syke Cottage, a traditional Lakeland long house. The annexe was originally the barn. Situated between Coniston and Windermere, this is an ideal base for families, walkers, nature lovers, climbers and cyclists. The annex sleeps 4, the main bedroom has a king size bed and en-suite shower, the second bedroom has 2 single beds. There is a family bathroom, modern kitchen with dining area and living room with wood burning stove. Designated parking area.

The space
In addition to the ground floor cosy living room, on the second floor there is a wonderful gallery area with beamed ceiling for relaxation, games and a second internet connected TV.
Outside there is raised decking with seating which overlooks the valley which is accessible through french doors from the living room. In addition a patio area with table and chairs along with a lockable bike store for those guests wishing to bring their own cycles.

The annexe benefits from an eco-friendly Air Source Heat Pump which provides hot water and under-floor heating, making the return back after a long winters hike all the more

Please note, whilst there is a spacious fridge in the kitchen there is not a freezer at Syke Barn.

Where you’ll be

Rusland, England, United Kingdom

This is an ideal base for families, walkers, nature lovers, climbers and cyclists wanting to experience the various pleasures of the Lake District. If you’re looking for serenity
accompanied by unspoiled and idyllic scenery then look no further. The Barn is perfectly situated, with the honey-pot villages of Hawkshead (famous for its ties to Beatrix
Potter), Far Sawrey, Ambleside and Coniston, all within easy reach by car with the roads lined with traditional dry-stone walls, local fells and numerous charming farm-houses. This area is bustling with wildlife including birds of prey, owls, deer, horses and sheep. A short walk from the Barn you will find the Rusland Moss nature reserve from where you can see ospreys in the breeding season and other wildlife.

Nearby villages of Satterthwaite, Oxen Park and Hawkshead have pubs which serve food. Hawkshead also has a small Co-op (7 miles away) and numerous shops, cafes and gift shops. A Booths and Aldi supermarket can be found in Ulverston (10 miles away) along with a wider selection of local shops.

On the way to Hawkshead you will pass through Grizedale Forest (4.5 miles away) which has sculpture and hiking trails and mountain bike tracks, in addition to over 3 km of zip-wires at the Go Ape centre. If you don't want to use the car then there is an almost endless number of public footpaths direct from the Barn, from pleasant stream-side strolls, to higher fells walks offering rewarding panoramic views to the high central fells in the north and the sea towards Morecombe to the south. The valley is a popular destination for cyclists who enjoy road and off road cycling, including those at Grizedale forest.

The beautiful sandy Roanhead beach at the National Trust Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve can be found 16 miles away.
