The space

Amazing views form almost every window. Places to curl up with a cup of coffee and a great book. You'll even find some in our take one/leave one library. Easy access to Interstate 80 and easy to find, even late at night

Spacious mountain home has three distinct living zones which makes this the perfect vacation rental. On the first floor you’ll find the fully equipped laundry facility as well as the recreation room with a television, DVD player and a Wii system. This is also the zone with the “slumber party space”; you’ll find bunk beds, a full bed and even a futon. Located on the second floor are the kitchen, dining area, living room and library which follow an open floor plan, making this floor perfect for socializing. You can savor an amazing high mountain sunrise while sitting on the deck off of the living room. While waiting for the kitchen timer to ring, you can enjoy the mountain air on a second deck. This is also where you’ll find the gas grill. A second entertainment system is located on this floor. If vacation means getting away from it all then make certain you get the chance to use the Jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom suite on the third floor. The tub is backed by floor to ceiling windows that look over cross country ski trails and provide unobstructed views of Castle Peak. While it isn’t a suite, the second bedroom, is actually larger than the master and has a fold out queen bed. Like the master suite, this room also has a gas fireplace. There is a third bedroom on this floor with a queen bed.

We are located on the Royal Gorge Cross -country ski trails, and 1 mile from Serene Lake. Near by Ski Resorts include; Soda Springs, Sugar Bowl, Boreal, and Donner Ski Ranch. Donner lake and Tahoe are close by.

Other activities include; hiking, Trail running, biking, rock climbing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, snowmobiling and relaxing.

ADVANTAGES - Great location because it's the first house from Soda Spring Rd and very easy to find. - 3 closed door bedrooms upstairs, 2nd level family and kitchen area, and 1st level "kids" bonus room with a door so you can limit the noise - Tons of pots, pans, dishes, cups and utensils for cooking and dining - Shovels to clear snow and a local service that clears the roads and driveway - Gas fireplace heaters that warm the whole house well - Fast and reliable WIFI internet service - Washer and dryer - Lots of towels - Quick communication with the owner DISADVANTAGES - Like most houses in this area, the garage is not usable to park a car. You can use it to store equipment only. - The 1st floor bonus room is a remodeled garage with a curtain that covers the garage door. There is a gas fireplace that keeps the room warm so temperature is not a problem.

The house was fantastic: cozy but with lots of different spaces for spreading out, nicely furnished and kept, and the amazing views and location made it feel like a mountain get away. The area is very quiet and yet walking distance from Royal Gorge, Soda Springs, and good sledding. Kathy was a great host, easy going and available. The bridge that is the only way out of the community was flooded on our departure day (first time in decades) and we had car trouble; Kathy went above and beyond being flexible and helping us troubleshoot.

Response from Kathy:
I am sorry you thought the communication was poor. I was ver specific as to the amount of parking available and the number of guests. At no time did you communicate that you would be hosting others at the house. We do not rent for events with extra parties due to limited parking and what the home will comfortably hold.

Kathy was a fabulous host, she was a wonderful communicator with our group of friends. The house was amazing, clean, and thoughtfully stocked with wonderful homy touches. We all LOVED it!

It is a beautiful home with great views. Our kids loved this 3-level structure house because it was a great place for them to play hide-and-seek. Our favorite place in this house was the deck where we enjoyed a nice BBQ (a grill was available) in a perfect summer weather (75 F). The description of the cabin is entirely accurate--very clean and well-maintained. We definitely would stay here again.

This was our first Airbnb experience. We felt right at home, the description of the home was right on point. Kathy's home was spacious, clean and had all the commodities you would need or want when traveling. Especially when you have young children. She even had a step stool that was extremely convenient for our three year-old. When we weren't down at Serene Lake we were watching one of the many movies Kathy had. The surrounding area was perfect, with plenty of lakes to fish and swim. Kathy was very quick to respond and answer my laundry list of questions from where the nearest grocery store was to where to watch fourth of July fireworks. We had a great time and would definitely recommend Kathy's home.

I have moved to the mountains to lead a calmer life. I enjoy the outdoors and exploring new places.
Life is good if you have great friends around and share some food, conversation and laughter.
