In the heart of lower Wivenhoe on the quay, our little self-contained cottage was once part of the home of The Colne Marine and Yacht Company. Its thick brick walls and quiet and pretty disposition, defy its former role as a working yard where timber yachts were crafted and repaired, drawn up inside at high tide.

Emma and Charlie welcome guests back time after time to relax and enjoy this very special place. We hope you will join them.

The space
The self-contained cottage has its own front door, accessed from a shared courtyard. Inside on the ground floor, you’ll find a large double bedroom with a deliciously comfortable bed, thick beams and walls lined with books in which to get lost. There’s a modern bathroom too, with over bath shower. Upstairs you’ll find a cook’s kitchen with sunlight streaming through windows on both sides of the building. There's a garden bench in the sunshine overlooking the quay - the perfect spot to sip your morning coffee, chat with passing locals and those passing by on the Wivenhoe nature trail, and watch the setting sun behind the sailing boats, with a glass of wine in hand.

Where you’ll be

Wivenhoe, England, United Kingdom

The ancient town of Wivenhoe was mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It's a pretty little town with a friendly, village atmosphere, particularly in the lower Wivenhoe area, adjacent to the river. There are several great restaurants and pubs nearby, with quirky cafes and shops too.

Those wanting to explore further afield, will find themselves deep in Constable Country, just a short drive away. The North Essex and South Suffolk countryside offers plenty of things to do, with market towns, coastal nature reserves and Areas of Natural Beauty, aplenty.
