Come away from your busy life to the quiet of the Holler. You have a separate, private dwelling for your stay, across the driveway from our home. The Hotel in the Holler is at the end of a nearly mile-long dirt/gravel/rocky driveway, and the key to success is, drive SLOWLY!! Your vacation begins as you turn onto the driveway...slow down, the rock cairns will lead to the Holler, drive as though you were walking your car...Welcome!
*some folks recommend AWD or 4WD, my Honda Accord works fine!
PLEASE NOTE: Our driveway has several drainage bumps which allow rainwater to drain off the drive. In order to help prevent your car from bottoming out on these bumps, you must go SLOWLY over them. Low clearance vehicles may still scrape as you come down. Some folks say they need an SUV, or AWD, or 4WD. My Honda Accord works fine for me. Toyota Prius and some VWs have very low clearance. If you have any questions, please call us.
The Hotel in the Holler looks rustic but it has many amenities: bathroom with toilet and shower, hot water, electricity, double bed (a port-a-crib is available), linens, goose down comforter, ceiling fan, kitchenette, small refrigerator, toaster oven, coffee/tea/hot water maker, heat, and fresh mountain spring water. We can even have seasonal critters in the Hotel...like ladybugs (even though we do vacuum them up as we see them).
We are part of an International Park up here in the Holler...called the Stars!! Come Astronomers! On a clear night the Milky Way stretches over the Holler and various heavenly landmarks can be viewed with your eyes, binoculars, or telescope.
We are within a 30-40 minute drive of many fun mountain attractions: hiking, birding, rafting, fishing, snow skiing or boarding, zip-line fun, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the cool little town of Marshall with some excellent eateries, Mars Hill and eateries there also, Burnsville, Barnardsville, and all the multitude of things to do, see, and places to eat, in Asheville.
There are several walks around the property: go up and visit the orchard and the blueberry patch, look around the barn, walk the terraces...and for your cardio workout, walk down the driveway...and back up!! Picnic area available on the premises. An outdoor star gazing/mountain view gazing area is just outside your door.
Interaction with guests
We are open to questions and will help you figure out things about the area...just ask!
Other things to note
We have an occasional skunk that saunters through in the night...this is an uninvited guest! Another uninvited guest would be stink bugs! They are seasonal pests.
- Quiet hours - 11pm to 7am.
- Please no shoes beyond the entrance room.
- Always be sure the toilet has stopped running after flushing.
- Listen intently for the owls at night, the birds by morning...and of course our doggie is a Sentinel that will announce your arrival and presence in the Holler. He enjoys visitors once he is properly introduced! Lovable, Farnsworth Cookie!
