This house is special. It is located on the largest property in the middle of the beautiful country town of Bright with commanding Alpine Views.
Bright Barn Retreat comprises of a main house of huge proportions;,The Barn, and a ground floor studio, situated high on a hill of 17 private acres of land with kangaroos. The backdrop of the Victorian State Forest and the north facing views of the Alpine Valley are stunning.
Currently our guesthouse La Petite Barn is not available for rental.
The space
We are a Retreat; isolated, secluded and private in every way.....close the beautiful handmade gates and leave the rest of the world behind....
Should you wish to venture into the charming Alpine township of Bright, it is a lovely 10 minute walk from the house to our front gate and a 5 minute walk into town on a lighted pedestrian footpath. The 5 minute walk will put you in the right place for a pub meal, brewery drink, fresh bread and coffee run and the riverside park and playground, plus the Main Street of Bright.
The short walk along the pathway is part of the Rail Trail bike riding track so listen out for passing bike bells.
We are currently priced for 10 adult guests with the ability to increase the booking to accommodate 2 additional children.
The additional 2 child guests (guest 11 and guest 12) may be accommodated on either a full linen trundle bed in the master bedroom, or a full linen single bed in the second queen bedroom, both bedrooms are located upstairs. Child beds 11 and 12 require notice and additional small fee.
The bedroom downstairs in the main house may be made up as either twin long single or King. This requires notice, please advise us at the time of booking.
Please enquire for 5-7 night stays only during peak times, Christmas, NY's Eve and Easter.
Many of the elements of this house have been handmade with recycled timbers. The high ceilings and grand views make the staying experience in this house truly memorable.
The house is very light, clean and full of positive energy.
High standards of cleaning have always been a priority at Bright Barn Retreat, our cleaning team is professional and our reviews are excellent. We have recently upgraded our cleaning and we are booking groups with larger gaps in between guest stays. We have also removed unnecessary soft furnishings and unsealed goods.

The Barn is a grand, beautifully proportioned house with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
The studio is an accommodation, located across the terrace that joins with the main house. It has a private entrance and one bedroom and one bathroom.
The guest house is currently closed for refurbishment.
In the main house called "The Barn" there is bedroom one/ King bedroom with balcony, walk in robe, spa ensuite located upstairs.... Bedroom 2/ Queen bedroom with walk in robe, single bed and balcony...bedroom 3/Queen bed with stunning north views. Both Queen bedrooms share a twin sink bathroom (bathroom 2) with shower over the bath located upstairs.
Bedroom 4 is located on the ground floor main house and can be made into either a King or twin bedr Bedroom 4 is located close to the downstairs bathroom (bathroom 3) which also houses a laundry behind sliding doors.
Bedroom 5 and bathroom 4 is located in Studio Cecile, in an adjacent building with a separate, private entrance. There is a King bed in Studio Cecile, shower bathroom, 2nd laundry and north views of the property.
Bright Barn Retreat has magnificent views from every window...strong Alpine mountain views from the front and views of the forest and gully from the back and side.
The main house has a long, hand made dining table to seat 12 guests with a gorgeous, large living room that can transform into a cinema room with a retractable screen.
There is a second small TV and couch area on the second level of the main house perfect for children and TV programs as a quiet, night entertainment area.
There is also a pool table in the main house making dinner parties extra fun and interactive for large groups.
The main house has its own laundry with Miele appliances. There are 2 Miele dishwashers in the main house kitchen, a real plus for big group dinners.
The Barn has a large BBQ on the terrace. The BBQ chef is King, as he cooks he enjoys the North facing mountain views to the front and as he turns around he also has the south facing forest views.
There are parking bays for guest cars. We ask all guests to keep the terrace entrance clear. There is no garaged car parking available for guests.
We ask that guests do not park or drive on the grass and respect our family of 50 kangaroos.

Guests can stroll the 17 acre private property with resident kangaroos, walk 10 minutes to front gate and 5 minutes to the beautiful town centre of Bright, enjoy the grand Alpine views from every room, play a game of pool or watch a movie on the theatre screen in the main house, take their bike to the rail trail which goes right by our front gate, sit on the front or back terrace and contemplate nature, pick herbs or veggies from our garden by the kitchen for their next meal, visit the chickens and see if there are any eggs, watch the kids play in the cubby house, sand pit or swings...the list of lovely activities is endless!
Bright Barn Retreat is a healthy environment to inspire guests....it's north facing position allows for maximum light even on the darkest day. It offers guests plenty of firewood to fuel the wood burning fireplace, please ensure you use safe practices when operating the fireplace and our steel bucket and tools are available for your use. The wood burning fireplace also has a second oven, great for pizza or jacket potatoes. We also have a plentiful veggie and herb garden located a few metres from the kitchen back door.
Please also enjoy our fresh eggs from our chickens and the opportunity to drink and bath in the rain water we collect and filter.
We find guests feel inspired by the mountainous alpine views from every window, and feel wrapped in nature when viewing the gully views from the kitchen and dining room bordering acres of forest.
Bright Barn Retreat is the property for all seasons; use it as your base for skiing in the winter, enjoying the cool Ovens river in the summer, experience amazing autumn views and one of the many festivals Bright has to offer, and visit the beautiful gardens of Bright in the Spring Festival.

Feel nature seeping through every window as you enjoy fresh country air, quiet natural views and lots of space, 17 private acres to roam about.
Wake up to the sounds of our friend the kookaburra or glance out your window on dusk and view the kangaroos milling around your front window feeding on native grass. We have approximately 50 resident kangaroos, they can be very peaceful to watch, except sometimes in Spring when they become boxing kangaroos as the males bid to lead the group. They also like to move at certain times of the day, usually sunrise and dusk. Our property allows for a unique Australian experience, especially for children.
In Autumn and Winter Bright Barn Retreat has a wonderful wood burning fireplaces to enjoy. We provide all the firewood you require, sourced from fallen trees on the property. Please take precautions to operate the fireplace with safety in mind at all times using the steel tools we provide.
There is also a spa bathroom in in the main house for your enjoyment. We use freshly filtered rain water, so your bath will be lovely.
In Summer and Spring you may wish to open the extensive screened doors and windows of our big windows and balconies to let the best of alpine fresh air flow through. The smells of the cool mountain air at night will sooth the senses. This property is filled with native Australian flora and fauna.
Bright Barn Retreat is fully air conditioned on the upper level only. We suggest on the warmer nights to open the screened doors to allow for cooler airflow in, then early in the morning close these doors to keep the cooler air inside. We have fans in every bedroom and air-conditioning in the upstairs alcove.
Bright Barn Retreat is the perfect country hideaway for large families or groups wishing to connect with nature and to relax.
Our La Petite Guesthouse is currently not available for rental as it is being refurbished.

We recognise that WIFI is important to our guests for many reasons, so we now HAVE WIFI.
PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT HAVE A MICROWAVE.
The bedrooms upstairs are air-conditioned with a system in the alcove located in the small lounge. The downstairs living area is not air-conditioned, but normally cools during nicely during the evenings with the cool katabatic airflow by opening up the many screened floor to ceiling windows.
During the heat of summer or spring we advise guests to leave the screened doors open downstairs overnight to allow a beautiful flow of cool night air (we border the national forest) into the house and then to close the doors in the morning to allow the downstairs area to remain cool. We have double glazed windows downstairs and have a 6 star rating insulation. The house seems to work well for our big groups.
We also have 4 ceiling fans, and some floor fans.
In regards to heating, we have one combustion fireplaces. The wood burning fireplace in the kitchen doubles as a second oven. We have slab heating downstairs in the main house to keep the chill off the floor only. All bedrooms have heaters. The house is very well insulated and the double glazed windows downstairs work very well.
We do have lots of lovely spaces to have group gatherings, meals, conversations and quiet contemplation surrounded by nature and stunning views.

Neighbourhood highlights
The house is beautifully situated on 17 manicured acres of north facing property in the middle of town. It has magnificent views of the township from a commanding vantage point on top of the hill. It borders the national park forest and therefore has all the lovely birds, flora and fauna native to Australia spilling out onto the property. It is peaceful and relaxing, while still being connected to the township.
