The neighbourhood

The flat is located in Newington area (Montague Street), just south of the Old Town – within fifteen minutes walking distance of most of the main sites in Old Town (the Castle, Holyrood Palace, the Galleries on the Mound, the National Museum of Scotland) and also within easy walking distance from elegant Princes Street (packed with stores), Waverley train station, which is where the airport bus also drops its passengers and most major film and theatre venues.

The neighborhood is very lively with plenty amenities nearby. Nicholson/Clerk Street is one of the best streets in Edinburgh for charity shops and one of the best coffee shops in town .

If you fancy eating out, the Newington area is lined with great pubs, bars, restaurants and takeaways. There is also a wide choice of local supermarkets, deli shops, bakeries, small shops and health food shops.

The flat is surrounded by two of the most iconic Edinburgh green spaces.
In one direction, the 63 acres parkland known as The Meadows is five minutes from the apartment ( Meadows also has a fantastic play park, which will be very popular with those traveling with young kid). The same amount of time in the opposite direction you will need to get to Holyrood Park and Salisbury Crags where you can find yourself immersed in a mini wilderness and admire amazing Edinburgh’s panoramic views from the top of the glorious Arthur’s Seat.
So if you are a walker or a jogger, don’t forget to pack your trainers or walking shoes. You must go for a walk or run around Arthur’s Seat.

Getting around

Edinburgh is a compact city and the flat is really central. The views in Edinburgh are so good I thoroughly recommend you travel by foot.

However, if you want to travel by bus Edinburgh does have a great bus network and the flat is just off a main street on which most of the major bus routes run. In addition, we are not far from the new tram connection to the airport, and even closer, the Airlink bus.

The main Railway station, Edinburgh Waverley, and the main bus station are about 20 minutes walk away, and there are a stream of buses going that way, or you can easily grab a short taxi ride.

A quick note on parking - on the street parking is free on weekends and evenings after 5:30pm. The Pay and Display system means that you pay between 8:30am and 5:30pm, Monday to Saturday.

Nice flat located in the city centre. The flat is really tidy and quiet. The bed is big enough and quite comfortable. Extremely reasonable price, recommend it!

The place was great, I went with high expectations based on the pictures and was pleasantly surprised when it was better than I had assumed! It is ideally located, particularly to Arthurs seat which has fantastic views of the city and they were great hosts making me feel welcome and giving me great advise on where to go tailored to what I wanted to get out of my weekend trip! I would recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Edinburgh.

I had a great stay at Barbara's place. Although the other rooms in the house had guests, it was of no disturbance. The place is a good 10-15 minutes walk from the city centre but buses are easily available The house is equipped with all that you need and has good basic breakfast options. I really enjoyed drinking my morning coffee on their red couch in a sunny corner. Barbara and Zee were really helpful throughout the stay.

Everything is quite nice, especially it's well facilitated and located in a quiet area. If you are a fan of hiking, it even provides a very convenient path to the Hollyrood mountain, which is quite nice.
