The space
Grand, peaceful and beautiful, your spacious 2nd-floor bedroom features a queen-size bed, luxurious linens, oversized armchair, closet, large windows overlooking the gardens, and a private bath with claw foot soaking tub (small) and original artistic tile. Enjoy reading, writing, napping, or a glass of wine in your room. Maybe a cup of coffee on one of the shared porches or the balcony. Our place is good for couples, solo or partnered adventurers, business travels, and all those who love preserved historic architecture & environmentally responsible living. A retreat near the city!
Owners (Gary & Laura) live at the Mansion. No parties and guests may not invite guests (friends or family) without express permission of the owners. Other rooms are listed and commons spaces are shared among guests (see below).

• Coffee Room stocked with locally roasted coffee, teas, and plenty of indoor & outdoor plates, glasses, etc for your use (please limit trash!)
• Game Room featuring over 100 board games and two windowed walls overlooking the pool & grounds
• Dining Room – play cards, spread out your maps, or set up your computer • Great Room with antique tiled fireplace and many large windows
• Library which has inviting leather recliners and books, games & flat screen Chromecast TV
• Parlor with unique antique furniture and a working Victrola
• Mezzanine featuring 8’ stained glass windows, a grand piano, and outdoor balcony
• Front Wrap-around Porch with tables & chairs and tranquil views
• the sunny Screened Side Porch is a peaceful retreat with an oversized porch swing.
• Also enjoy a walk around the lake, to the 100-year-old chicken house, or just roam around the grounds.
• In season, enjoy our 30-gallon pool, BlueTooth speaker, and large patio with gazebo.
• We can set up croquet, bocce ball, or ladder ball . . . maybe take a turn on the tree swing hung by 50’ ropes.

Once you check-in, come & go as you please. There are steps to get into the Mansion and all sleeping rooms are on the 2nd floor. Also, you'll want to have a car or use a ride-share. We have plenty of off-street parking and a spot saved just for you. We are happy to suggest restaurants, theaters, shopping, museums, nightlife, unusual and usual sites, whatever you enjoy! We can direct you to grocery, gas, drug & liquor stores . . . and tell you which ones to steer clear of!

• Please do not book with infants (under 24 months old). Because this is a B&B with common spaces, and no areas are infant-proof, we cannot accomodate children under the age of 2.
• The private bathroom does not have a shower, but is a tranquil space with toilet, sink, amenities and a claw foot soaking tub. It has an attached hand-held sprayer, which is handy but does not provide the ability to stand and shower. We provide soaking salts, shampoo, conditioner, soap and a hair dryer.
• Listed on both the National and Local Registries of Historic Places.
• Weapons are not permitted.
• Smoking & vaping allowed in designated outdoor areas only.
• Parties not permitted without prior permission of the hosts.
• Photo & video shoots not permitted.

Mansion in the Park was built by Ira Van Noy in 1902 as a gift to his wife. Gary & Laura bought this historic home in 2000, only the fourth owners. Our home is ideally situated as a central site for your Kansas City vacation. While there are not restaurants or bars within walking distance, there are hundreds within a short 10-20 minute drive and we'll be happy to make recommendations.

I am a retired science educator and worked with researchers in the fields of polar science and climate change. I worked with zoos, museums, and cultural centers in development of educational displays and programs for all ages. Past president of Polar educators International.
I have a large family and live in an historic home. We have converted the HVAC to geothermal and installed a solar farm to power it. I have traveled extensively in the polar regions of the planet and in my youth I was an exchange student in Norway and then in Paraguay. I like getting to know the people I stay with, but understand that in some cases that is not possible due to my or the guest's schedule.
