This newly constructed Farmhouse Suite is an eclectic 850 SF farmstay in the Driftless Region of SW Wisconsin. Nestled in a secluded valley on 13 acres, there is nothing to lose here except the madness of everyday life. This exceptional property offers fiber optic Wifi access, is available year-round and is 20 mins to Richland Center or 25 mins to Viroqua. Additional accommodations on the farm include the Guesthouse at Griff Run (Airbnb) and camper and tent camping via Hipcamp.

The space
Experience hobby farm living and the privacy of your own suite - at Griff Run. This 13-acre organic hobby farm includes nine historic buildings including a dairy barn and root cellar. In the Farmhouse Suite you'll find 850 square feet, incredible farm views, nine-foot ceilings, 1800's farmhouse charm, modern amenities and an industrial twist. The Suite includes a master bedroom with 16-inch luxury mattress, master bath with walk-in rain shower and European soaking tub, walk-in closet, a work station for telecommuting, a full kitchen and pantry. In-floor heat under industrial concrete floors keeps the Suite cozy during the cooler months. The Suite does not offer air conditioning because it's not needed as the Suite is at garden level, taking advantage of below-ground temps. While we are not farmers ourselves, we love the company of our (outdoor) animal friends - and the menagerie changes regularly: horses, alpacas, chickens, the lovingest farm cats in WI, and one Goldendoodle. In summer 2019 we welcomed two livestock guardian pups, Pyradors, and two baby alpacas (crias) - so stinkin' cute!

To address any COVID-19 concerns...the Farmhouse Suite is part of our 1800's farmhouse, however, there are no shared entrances or exits and the farmhouse has no shared ventilation or forced air system. The Farmhouse Suite is new construction and built to code.

Guest access
The Suite offers every necessity; enjoy organic coffee and tea on your front patio. Roam behind the farmhouse to the orchard area and sun deck. The sun deck is a great place for stargazing. Across the road, a stroll through the pasture to mingle with the alpacas or gather organic peppermint growing creekside is an excellent way to start or end a day. We'll take you on a full farm tour (social distance-style, of course) when you're ready.

Other things to note
Two items to note: If you've never had an on-demand water heater, you'll notice that it takes about 45 seconds for the water to heat to 120 degrees. Also, the farm operates on well and septic systems. The water from the well is the best we've ever tasted, and tested regularly as required by the state. Finally, septic systems are touchy and uber expensive to troubleshoot. You won't have any issues if you follow one simple rule: nothing goes down the toilet or drain except water, human waste and toilet paper (provided)! EVERYTHING else goes into the trash can - especially those problematic "flushable" wipes. Remember this in the kitchen as well, when it's time to drain grease, etc. from cooking. Please dispose of such things in the trash can. Trash can be disposed of in the green dumpster near the red barn. Leaving trash outside of the Suite will invite all of the critters of the night to your front door...

Our farm, Griff Run, is nestled in a secluded, private valley in the Driftless Region of SW Wisconsin. We can't see or hear our nearest neighbor, and, while we love them, we love that more. Our neighbors are hard-working farmers, English and Amish, as well as blue and white-collar professionals, like ourselves, just looking for sanctuary. World-class trout streams are a five-minute jaunt down a country road. Roam the area on one-lane farm roads surrounding Griff Run. Or, just stay on the farm and get some loving from our four alpacas. You'll likely lose your cell signal as you descend into our valley. We tend to think that's a good thing...

We moved to Griff Run, our 13-acre hobby farm, from Denver, in 2011. Matthew, a Philly native, electrician and contractor, keeps busy maintaining and upgrading the nine buildings on the farm. The kids, both teenagers, have a love/hate relationship with the farm (love the animals, hate the chores!) and are looking forward to living in larger, urban areas as they choose a college campus (Viola is, technically, 15 minutes from our farm and population 700 - which the parents think is perfect). They'll be back :) Shawna has worked in marketing, crisis management and communications for decades and dedicated five years to different campuses and entities of University of Wisconsin System. Now, she puts all of that experience into efforts at Griff Run, including Hipcamp lodging in 2020 and The Red Barn vintage shop & bakery, opening in 2021.
