Our charming duplex is in a small, private development, with communal pool, (open in summer) & tennis court. It's perfect for a couple or four people. We have two terraces with fabulous views - the upper is totally private; the lower is not private. We have designated parking. This is our home from home and we love it. Our Wi-Fi is 'pay as you go'. We have no air conditioning, central heating nor dishwasher, although portable air con units are available on request. A car is recommended.

The space

A private development, completed in 2005, with stunning panoramic views. 3 bedrooms (Master has King size bed; 2nd bedroom has twin beds which can be pushed together to form a 160cm double bed & the 3rd has bunk beds). All rooms have very comfortable beds and, mostly, Egyptian cotton bed linen. Ideal for a couple with children over 5: it is unsuitable for very young children because of open plan internal stairs. Although the apartment sleeps 6, it is perfect for a couple, or for 4 adults, or 2 adults with 2 children/teenagers maximum. We recommend it for a maximum of 4 people, because the living space isn't very large. There is a Wi-Fi connection - super download speed costs €20 per week. Connection instructions are simple to follow.

Guest access

Access to entire apartment, designated parking, private upper terrace with sunbeds & lower terrace (which adjoins our neighbours' terraces) for eating, communal pool (when open), tennis court (not suitable for serious players because of lack of back-run) & storage room. The kitchen has a washing machine, electric hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, large fridge/freezer - please note we have neither an oven nor a dishwasher.
The WiFi connection is 'pay as you go'. It costs €20 for super speed downloads for 7 days. Log on & payment instructions are easy to follow.

Interaction with guests

We are non-residents. Maxine, a delightful English woman who speaks some Spanish, looks after the apartment. If required, Maxine will meet our guests and show them the apartment, unless keys & instructions have been supplied in advance.
If you are staying longer than two weeks, Maxine will make an arrangement to come and clean the apartment and you must pay her in euros, in cash. This ensures that the apartment is maintained to a certain standard. If you require the apartment to be cleaned more often during your stay, please make a private arrangement with Maxine. For long stays, Maxine will collect bed linen fortnightly and you will be required to cover the cost of professionally laundering.

Other things to note

In our private store room behind our parking bay you'll find a beach parasol, some fold up chairs & beach rolls. There's also an old sunbed which you can take to the pool.
There are several pairs of scuba shoes in the wardrobe of the bunk bedroom.
Wi-Fi is pay as you go.
Lots to do within easy reach - Malaga (Picasso Museum); Granada (Alhambra); Nerha (the caves) and sandy beach; play tennis in Almunecar (book at the sports stadium) - there are two tennis rackets (and balls) in the apartment and 2 pairs of tennis shoes (39 and 40.5); or take a class at one of the gyms in town; experience the Water Park; go skiing in the Sierra Nevada; scuba diving or charter a boat trip in the marina; hang gliding - contact the owner of Hostal California on the N340; horse riding; walking or trekking; swimming in the pool; or in the sea, or just chill out &, of course, enjoy eating and drinking in lots of great bars and restaurants, or at home. Just sit on the lower terrace and watch the day go by...

Overall we had a fantastic stay at the apartment. The views from the balcony and terrace are amazing and probably unrivalled for properties in the area. As a couple we had plenty of space between the two of us (a bathroom each!). Jean is a fantastic host with a great deal of information provided and great communication throughout our stay. Plus a nice present on arrival :-). As an FYI for those looking at staying, the beaches are within walking distance but there is a significant climb through the gardens and up/down the road to get to sea level - we found this fine but may be a challenge for those with limited mobility. A quick item of note - there was an odour in both the bathrooms (which Jean had advised) which was a bit off-putting. Great value for money, and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a stay outside of the big towns on the coast.

The house is amazing and is situated in a quiet residential. I would recommend hire a car if you want to make small trip around Almuñécar.

This was the first time I've booked through air bnb. It has genuinely been a great experience. Jean has been so helpful from the initial booking right up to the end of our time in her lovely apartment. Her description of her apartment is accurate and her approach regarding accomodating her guests is faultless. We spent our time lazing about on the completely private upstairs terrace and also going down to the beautiful Velilla beach. I will admit that coming back up the stairs through the garden in the heat could be quite arduous but it's toned my legs beautifully and all you really need to do is time going back up when it's not so hot. It wasn't a problem and I would definitely love to come back. There are local supermarkets to pick up the essentials and if you need more then there is a huge Mercadona and if you don't drive (we didn't), get a taxi back for under 10 euros. We loved the local chringuitos and ate there a lot. Really inexpensive. I noticed at ones point that there was a small part of shower broken and let Jean know. It was fixed within five minutes then following day. I really don't have anything bad to say at all. Thank you. Jean

Thank you for this lovely review. I was a bit worried about you without a car. However you even managed to turn the steep climb back up to the apartment into a positive! You are model guests and I hope your future experiences with Airbnb are as positive. All the very best to you and your sister.

This really is a home from home, it was a great apartment with spectacular views. It catered perfectly to our needs. Apartment is equipped with everything you might need. The welcome note and bottle of wine was a lovely touch and very personalised. Highly recommend Jean's Place.

Perfect place for traveling around Costa Tropical, Sierra Nevada/Alpujarras, and Granada. Very clean and comfortable apartment with everything we needed. Although we never personally met, communications with Jean were very clear. I have stayed at several airbnb and home away apartments and Jean's A-Z list and how-to videos top them all!

Jean is a Super Host! Her house is very comfortable for a family. We are four and we felt at home. Amazing view on the see; breathtaking Sunrise. Super clean, very quite and so much to discover all around. Nice location to go to Granada, Nerja, Tabernas desert (Fort Bravo studios) ... We recommend Jean's house !!! Eric and family

Thank you for your lovely review. Guests like you are what sharing our apartment is all about. It has been a really joyful experience! You certainly made the most of your six days in Almunecar! We haven't been to Fort Bravo studios so that is now well and truly on our list. It's great when my guests teach me things about the area in which I spend so much time.

We felt so comfortable at Jeans place and we had everything we needed. Jean is very generous and you feel free to use anything in the apartment and to make yourself at home plus to use the beach equipment etc. Jean was always quick to respond and help. Instructions on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) on how to do things were very helpful. We had no trouble with the keys to any of the gates, (the only one which needed a little bit of force was the trash unit door). The pool was a lovely bonus as we didn't expect it to still be open in November and there was a lovely view of it from the balcony. The ground floor balcony has beautiful views (we saw dolphins swimming right across the bay), but it is not as private as the large upstairs balcony area but this only a view of the sea and the horizon, but is very peaceful and secluded. The only problem we had was that the wifi was slow at times and went off completely once, although Jean had left good instructions on how to easily contact the wifi supplier nearby who was very helpful and even came out that day to check and fix it. We enjoyed our stay.
