The Red Fox Retreat is the ultimate luxury glamping getaway location. A twist on the more conventional ‘pod’, the cabin features a curved wood interior entered from an arched doorway in front of which is situated a perfectly appointed king sized bed with amazing views of the Trottenish Ridge and the croft (farmland) that surrounds the property. It is warm and cosy to protect against the elements and yet light and airy. The cabin is accessed via a spectacular large undercover deck area.

Location

Culnacnoc, Scotland, United Kingdom

The Red Fox Retreat is situated in perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of the United Kingdom. The North end of the Isle of Skye is dominated by the incredible ancient landslip that now forms the Trottenish Ridge, and features sights such as the Old Man of Storr (a ten minute drive from the Retreat) and the Quirang (a fifteen minute drive) where films such as Prometheus and Macbeth were filmed. We are also a short walk (20 mins) to Lealt Falls, and a short drive to the famous waterfall at Kilt Rock (5 mins) More generally it is possible to walk from the cabin to a number of beautiful places, including short strolls or more challenging day hikes or hillwalks. We are able to make suggestions of suitable adventures. We can also suggest routes for mountain biking or water based activities including wild swimming and SUP. If you are very fortunate during the winter months you may even get a chance to see the Northern Lights dancing in the Sky!

Our nearest village is Staffin, which is a 10 minute drive away. It has two small shops, a post office and petrol pump and during the Summer months, a cafe in Columba 1400, a local Social enterprise charity and where your host Nicola works with young people. It also has an excellent takeaway, The Hungry Gull, who’s opening hours vary.

For restaurants, cafes, small gift shops, a pharmacy and a smallish supermarket we suggest Portree which is Skye’s ‘capital’, which is a 25 minute drive away. It is important to consider booking restaurants in advance as it can get very busy, and some places close for winter. Portree is a lovely town with a pretty harbour featuring multi coloured houses.

Further afield we are approximately an hour and 15 minutes away from the Cullin mountains, the beautiful fairy pools and the Tailsker Whisky distillery.

Our names are Nicola and Alex and we live here on The Isle of Skye. Nicola is professional outdoor instructor and has worked in our local village Staffin for a charity that provides young people visiting Skye with residential experiences for 8 years. She loves getting outside, mountain biking, snow sports, paddling, stand up paddle boarding and anything fun. She’s proud of her Glaswegian roots! Alex has recently relocated here after 25 years working in leadership the charitable sector with amazing young people in Glasgow and now undertakes the day to day running of The Red Fox Retreat. She enjoys socialising, baking and cooking for others and looking after people! We are both passionate about hospitality, welcome and the great outdoors as well as this breathtakingly beautiful place we are able to live. It has been our dream to enable others to share some of our little slice of heaven and we are proud to have built our luxurious cabin within the extensive grounds of our own property, whilst promoting a sense of privacy and isolation for all.
