Another great place to settle down for a few weeks of the quiet life near one of Sri Lanka’s most gorgeous beach towns.

Price is for the whole home per night. Longer stays are preferred.

The space

This home is as nice as they come. Newly built next to the old family home, this house is for guests alone. Well, alone… if you’re nice to Rexy and Sana and Kitty (two doggies and a cat) they’ll grant you as many visits and cuddles as you like. The house has three double bedrooms, one bathroom and a nice living room. You can use the kitchen, but great food is provided by Mrs. Mali herself.

Interaction with guests

Mrs. Mali lives in the 120-year old house next door, with her two children. She’s always there to help out, happy to arrange pick-ups from almost anywhere with their van and, last but not least, she’s a great cook, known to make a killer jackfruit curry.

Mrs Mali and her family where very welcoming, they came to pick us up from the station and drove us to the house which was a little hard to find. The house is located in a small village around 10 minutes walk to Dalawella beach and 25 minutes walking along the road to Unawatuna beach. However there were a few major issues to this property. It has three bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen all of which could do with a major clean, there was a lot of dirt and hair in the bathroom and food left in the sink which had attracted ants. We didn't even attempt to use the kitchen sink after discovering this. The family house is next door and they did get up early to do construction work from 6am. The shower pressure was very weak and we did not realise that we had to turn on the hot water by a button well above head height until the last day so were having cold showers. A welcome book with this and other information on the house would have been very useful. Also the dogs are guard dogs, not cute and friendly dogs you can have a cuddle with. We suspected that we may have been the first people to stay in this property and so wanted to write a review; hopefully they can improve on this as it has great potential.

We really enjoyed ms Mali and her nice family! She really did her best to make us feel good. She connected us with scooter rental, a driver, and did laundry for a small fee. Even if english is not her strong side, she communicated well and is highly trustworthy. Always keeps a promise. The house is big an spaceous, and stays dry and cool even without AC. All tech stuff works and wifi is fast. On the negative side: beds were not top comfort. The yard doesnt offer much fun to do, and the house is a bit away from beaches. The train passes 30 meters from the house, and its quite a scare when it signals early in the morning. Also the neighbourhood dogs sometimes has a howling competition at night - but other than that this is a very quiet place. Dont mind the family dog Rexit. He does his job barking at strangers, but as soon as he has met you he turns into a puppy! We liked him. Oh, and if youre lucky, you might see monkeys early in the morning.

Very welcoming and friendly family, ready to help in any way. Lovely quiet setting except when the train comes and the dog barks too much. A tuk tuk ride to the beach or a pleasant 1km walk. Not a bad place
