House Rules

Welcome to Mad River Valley, VT and the ‘Red Ski House’! We’re delighted you’ve decided to stay here. The house underwent a major systems renovation in 2003, and has a recently renovated kitchen, so we hope you will enjoy your stay. Please contact us if you need anything further or have any questions.

Boots in the Mudroom. Please leave your outdoor footwear in the mudroom. There’s a sign to remind you ☺.

There is one thing you’ll want to do as soon as you arrive:

Turn on the hot water heater. The switch is in 1st floor bathroom, in the left-hand closet with the water heater, on the left inside wall – up is on. Be sure to turn it off again when you leave!
Space your showers out over the day to optimize the amount of hot water available for everyone.

Other notes:

The stairs to the 2nd floor are steep and the treads are narrow. Use the handrails and watch your kids!

The first floor bath tub floor is very slippery – please be careful! There is a suction cup shower floor mat that you can use.

The upstairs shower door tends to leak slightly at the bottom right edge (towards hall); please keep an eye out and wipe the floor there after you shower – thanks!

Toilets - there is a plunger in one of the bathrooms, should you find yourselves needing it - under a sink or in a corner.

Kitchen staples. The larder is pretty well stocked and you are welcome to use anything so long as you replace whatever you deplete before you leave! (If you're somehow not able to replace it, at least please write it on a list on the 'frig.) That’s the general rule. Specifically, items on the two bottom shelves between the stove and the sink are up for grabs (they were left by other renters). Items on the top shelves in this cabinet unit are the owner’s and are off limits. The spices and seasonings to the left of the stove are OK to use, so long as you replace anything that you use up.

Linens. The beds will have clean sheets set out on them (for you to make up); more sheets are in the 1st floor bathroom closet if you need them, and extra pillows are in the 'dorm room'; towels are stored in both bathrooms. When you leave, please strip the beds you used of the sheets only (leave the mattress pad on the bed unless it got soiled) and put the used sheets and towels on the wide shelf under the window in the laundry/mud room.

Washer / Dryer. You are welcome to use the washer and dryer. To use the washer pull the lever on the mixing valve at the wall down (towards you). Now the water is on. Set the water level and temperature the way you want. Laundry detergent is in the cupboard above. Put the correct amount of soap in.

Dining. If you need more seating, there’s folding chairs in the laundry room +/or garage, and a couple of extra chairs upstairs in addition.

Phone/Internet. Additional phone jacks are in the 1st floor bedroom with the green floor and the 2nd floor BR with blue floor. The house phone # is . It is only to be used for local calls! There is also DSL internet service at the desk in the queen bedroom upstairs. Most people take advantage of the wireless hub. The Network name is BEC Wireless and the Password is wifi4674.

TV/DVD. The cable remote turns on the cable box, TV and DVD player like you probably are used to at home. It should behave like all remotes you are accustomed to in terms of changing channels, volume, etc. You need the Insignia TV remote to play a DVD. Press the “Input” button and then use the arrow keys to change from HDMI to Component. Hit ok and you can play a DVD. Sometimes we open the DVD tray with the button on the DVD player, then the cable remote works everything. Of course you need to use the TV remote to go back to HDMI to watch the television again.

Trash. Place it all inside a plastic bag and then put it inside the rectangular trash barrels in the middle of the garage WITH THE COVER TIGHTLY CLOSED.

Recycling. Rinse cans, bottles & aluminum and place in blue Rubbermaid container to the right of the washer in laundry room (or take home with you :o). Before you leave put the plastic, metal and glass container recycling in the RED barrel in the garage we use for recycling. There should be a clear plastic bag in the red barrel. If there isn’t one please put one in (there on the wide shelf in the laundry room).

Problems/Concerns. Email us at . If you don’t get a response, please call Charlie on his cell phone at .

Your Suggestions. We are working to have a comfortable and usable house for ourselves and guests. We would appreciate any suggestions you can give us on how to make it better. We expect to hear what needs to be improved, but if there is anything you were really pleased with let us know that too, and we’ll make sure it stays as part of the ‘program’.

Best wishes for good weather (the Valley takes care of the rest!)

To re-cap the to-do list for final departure, please be sure to:

•turn off *water heater, *washing machine water, and *all lights;

•unplug toaster and coffee maker, etc.

•lock all windows and doors, pulling the entry door hard/tight behind you to make sure it's fully closed & engaged

thank you very much and enjoy!!!

This place is fantastic! Super close to Mt. Ellen and only a few minutes longer to Lincoln. It's spacious with 5 bedrooms, including 3 queen beds. And it was clean! There's a grill and it's dog friendly. It's also super close to Local Folk which is amazing. What more could you ask for? Would love to stay here again with a big group.

Overall good experience in the house... it is large and spacious and comfortably fit 9 of us. Even though the house was not completely cleaned when we arrived, the host was able to compensate for decent amount of money for the incident.
