You'll love this well-appointed, spotlessly clean room and shared bath in my cozy home. Your room is in a quiet guest area with a bath that you share with one long-term guest. We're 30 minutes from downtown Dallas; 20 from Waxahachie. Dogs live here but they are not allowed in the guest area. Semi-rural area - you will need a car to get around.

The space
The bed is a US queen size. The room comes with a spacious closet and dresser so you can unpack and feel at home. It has a small desk and chair perfect for laptop use, but if you need more room for work, you also have access to the dog-free dining room and den. I am a foster mom for Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, so there are always foster dogs in my home. They are never in allowed in the guest area. You will have to come into their space if you use the kitchen. If you are not comfortable with big, affectionate dogs and need access to kitchen, living room and laundry, please consider booking elsewhere. I welcome Triumph Aerostructures and hospital contractors; Scarborough Renaissance Fair guests and characters, and multi-gun match competitors and their gear are also welcome. I welcome most well-socialized pets, too. You must provide details in advance, and I reserve the right to say no to any pets.
I am happy to consider stays longer than a few days. Message me with the details of your needs and what you expect from my home (kitchen and laundry use, business needs) and we can negotiate price. Before accepting a long-term stay reservation, I would need you to affirm that you had read and agree to my long-term house rules, and love big dogs. I offer a month-to-month lease for long-term guests.
No smoking or use of tobacco products allowed anywhere on the premises.

Guest access
You'll have access to my kitchen for the microwave and Keurig, breakfast bar in the kitchen, laundry room and the living room. The living room has Amazon TV with Amazon Prime and Netflix. I can make space in the refrigerator if you need it. The dogs rule this area, so be sure you are 100% comfortable with big, friendly dogs. You also have access to the dog-free dining room and den so you can relax or work in a larger space.

Other things to note
I have big, friendly dogs that are safe around people of all ages. You are welcome to have as much or as little interaction with them as you wish. They are not allowed in guest rooms. If you come into the kitchen or the living room, you will be in their space. Never leave the front door open. Greyhounds run fast and love to sneak out. The gate in the entry hall is to keep the dogs away from the guest area; you, however, are always welcome in their area.

Location

Red Oak, Texas, United States

Oak Tree Estates is a small, quiet, racially mixed, low-traffic subdivision of only 65 homes in a semi-rural area south of Dallas. It is a safe place to walk at night and is too small to get lost in. We're out in the country, but not too country. In Red Oak you'll find a Super Walmart, Whataburger, Starbucks, chain restaurants, a very good independent barbecue place, decent tacos and a Brookshires grocery. There are also chain drug stores. I am close to Interstate 35E, which is the main route through Dallas. Access to Interstate 45 to Houston is about 20 minutes east of here. Check out the “How far is…” page in the binder in your room for travel times. The Scarborough Renaissance Festival and Willow Creek wedding venue are nearby in Waxahachie. Extreme Tactics & Training Solutions, home of multi-gun matches in Ellis County, is about 30 minutes away in Maypearl. Triumph Aerostructures is a 15-minute walk on a nice day or a 5-minute drive in Red Oak.

I'm a transplant to Texas from California, and loving the good life in the Dallas area. I'm a Medicare & Retirement Advocate at United Healthcare, writer, editor, foster mother for the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas and mom to four dogs. I also lead the grief ministry at church and people tell me I am a good listener. I'm always in search of good conversation and interesting books. My favorite way to spend an evening is sharing a great meal and a bottle of wine with friends. I love to entertain and encourage you to join in if I am having company for dinner. I'm a great guest. I take good care of my surroundings and clean up after myself. I treat other people's homes as if they were my own. I'm quiet, low maintenance and respectful. As a host, I respect your privacy. If you want conversation, a meal, a glass of wine, advice or help, I'm there! But if you want to shut the door and sleep, that's OK, too. Just let me know what you need. My motto: Roll with it.

During your stay
One of the pleasures of hosting is meeting new people, but everyone has a different style. I respect your privacy. I'm happy to help you find a restaurant, offer a glass of wine, conversation, time with the dogs or stay out of your way. I’ve been known to feed guests on nights when I am cooking at home. You can always reach me by phone, text or email if you prefer less face-to-face contact. You'll find my contact information in the house manual in your room.
