About this listing
Lakeshore traditonal 'Cortijo' (rural house) with fantastic views & easy access for swimming in the cleanest waters you'll ever experience. 10 mins from beautiful Castril and IN the National Park
My calendar is updated every day so you may 'Instant Book' with confidence. :)
My holiday home is a traditional Andalucian 'cortijo' (rural cottage) in a remarkable position on the edge of Portillo lake just outside the famous heritage town of Castril.
Fine lake views from the first floor, and astounding one from the rear garden... but the best bit is the lake itself below the house that will probably provide the best bathing of your life - clear, clean fresh water that has an amazing green/azure glow from the limestone rocks. We supply inflatable rubber rings and a snorkel and mask. During the year of renovation we never had to share the bathing beach below the house with a single other (URL HIDDEN) it feels like your own lake.
Once down at the water you can see for miles across the National Park...and not single property in sight - it really is a very special location.
Days out will take you to the Alhambra in Granada (a 'wonder of the world'), a choice of lakes and geo-thermal spas, or the coast which has a surprising number of small, traditional and unspoilt resorts.
Lounge - with large (and good quality) double sofabed, radio, open fire (plenty of free wood down at shore). Dining table for 6
Kitchen - oven, hob, toaster, kettle, fridge with small freezer compartment, two sinks, small dining table for 2/4
Bathroom - large room with large new double shower. hairdryer
Master bedroom - double with great lake view
Bedroom 2 - large room with double and single bed, and direct access out to rear garden
Parking for 2 cars
Dining table and chairs for 4
lounge chairs and outdoor rug
Astounding views from the land at the rear
A whole house, with two bedrooms, and access down to the lakeshore for swimming.
Interaction with guests
Communication is mostly by email, though I have a local housekeeper in case of problems. Access is typically via a keycode so late arrivals are ok.
Other things to note
Note that young children would need to be supervised in the back garden as there is a sheer drop to the water.
No smoking inside thanks - but with a view like this from the garden who'd want to smoke inside?
No pets on the sofa or on the beds, and thanks for clearing garden mess

I'm an architectural historian and I restore unusual and historic buildings across Europe and let them for holidays.
I'm a former University lecturer from the University of Wales (archaeology/ architectural history), and have written several books and TV series on architecture. I love great views, privacy and finding the best locations, and then renovating and restoring in an appropriate style.
I speak English, Welsh and Polish, and I understand basic French. Learning Spanish.
My properties are managed by Yvonne and she speaks English and Spanish.
