PLEASE ENQUIRE ABOUT REDUCED RATES FOR LONGER STAYS OR FEWER GUESTS.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire property, although one small room that we use as a study will be locked.

Interaction with guests

Someone will be available to welcome you, hand over the keys and show you around. We will not be present at the property during your stay, but you will be able to call someone if you there is a problem or if you have any questions.

Other things to note

Our cottage is very comfortable and characterful and perfect for travellers who are attracted to the trendy 'vibe' of Kalk Bay which is a very arty coastal village, crammed with coffee shops, eateries and art & craft galleries - all quite different to glitzier Atlantic side of Cape Town.
We have an integrated security alarm and response. We do not have a television! We have a washing machine and dish-washer which you are welcome to use. The kitchen is small but has all the appliances you may need including a gas stove, electric oven and microwave.

Sanctuary is a lovely house, and there was everything you could need, including good advice on the local area. Kalk Bay is a relaxed low-key place to be based. Damien and Rebecca couldn't have been more helpful. All in all, a very good introduction to AirBnB and Cape Town.

We absolutely loved our stay at the sanctuary. It is a gorgeous home, the garden is luscious and view is breathtaking, quite literally so! Damien is a perfect host, was so helpful and communicative during our stay! Eat fish and chips everyday! Go to Cuba to Cape Town for a vibey pina colada that lasts for an hour. Go for walks around the gorgeous area, and let the sea and sun fix you. It's a lovely spot and the home is gorgeous, if it's winter stay warm and make fire in the living room (with the wood burner!) it gets lovely and toasty.

Ernestine, kids and I really enjoyed staying at the Sanctuary - sea side cottage. What a wonderful gem in beautiful Kalkbay. The house has everything, great views, nice small garden, rocky terrace, even an extra garden room if you need the space. In the house a well equipped kitchen, nice sofa's and two good bedrooms. Damian is a great and very helpful host who provided us with good suggestions and was always available in case of trouble. We are certainly coming back, great destination for holidays. To cite Kate, our 4 year old daughter when asked what she liked most about the holiday she said 'the house, I really really really liked the house!'

This is a fantastic and unique place to live with great views of the sea. It's close enough to all of the shops etc in Kalk Bay but still located in a quiet and relaxing place. The flat is well equipped and has everything needed for a great stay. There is a tidal pool across the street which we walked to every morning. Can fully recommend this gem!

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Damian's and Rebecca's house in Kalk Bay. We loved everything about the place, but especically enjoyed the garden and the view. It was also great to have more than enough space for all five of us (including two small kids). Damain was great to deal with and very helpful with any questions/problems we had. I would definitely reccomend his place to anyone coming to Cape Town.

It's always such a pleasant surprise when an place ends up being more beautiful than the pictures...and this was def the case in this quirky Kalk Bay treasure. In addition to a personal greet and walk through when we arrived wine chocolate, and a garden full of fresh herbs and veggies awaited us. The eclectic layout of the house means that there is private space for everyone and sea views from all around. Everything in the house has been carefully set up and maintained. Tasteful personal decor but no clutter. An amazing book case of books for holiday reading. And to top it off a wood stove (with wood thoughtfully supplied of course) for chilly nights.

This is a lovely, well-appointed, tastefully furnished home with fine sea views and a terraced garden which stretches three tiers up the mountain. It's close enough to trendy Kalk Bay to walk to the amenities, but far enough away for the house to be peaceful. We knew we were on to a good holiday thing when we noticed no television, meaning more time for reading books and visiting the tidal pool only minutes’ walk away, but best of all we liked the home’s green consciousness. Water is recycled, earthworms are fed and paper, glass and plastic are all re-cycled. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and couldn’t recommend this much-loved Quarry St home more.

I grew up in Cape Town, and have lived in Kalk Bay with my wife, Rebecca, for the past seven years. We are currently based in the UK but still spend quite a bit of time for work and holidays in South Africa. We both work in the NGO/social enterprise sector.
