Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
We are a 1 BR condo atop Munjoy Hill, a block from the historic 78 acre ocean side Eastern Prom Park, with its majestic homes, gourmet food trucks, grassy hills, and recreation area. Our condo is an easy, open space, renovated in 2019, with artful touches created by my woodworker husband. From here, you can grab a coffee, and muffin and hop on the Prom's paved walkway, connecting you to the seaport below. Evenings, come back to marvel at the wondrous sunset unveiled, just steps from our place.

The space
This is our home, so it is fully stocked with life's necessities. You have access to a closet with cleaning supplies, as well as linens, and paper products. Our condo definitely is cozy, but not tiny; the feeling is one of free flow and space.
A quiet bedroom, with a chair and writers desk to sneak in some time for writing or reading later in the day. We have Wifi- 100Mbps internet speed and Roku; Netflix; and YouTube TV. A washing machine and dryer in the bathroom offers convenience.
There is a handicap ramp, but we are not set up for wheelchairs within the space. We enjoy two entrances into our building. Both entries offer a private feeling, as we share with only one other building occupant at each. The hallways to our space are separate.
Our kitchen is a lively space, informal and well designed, with all the tools needed to have fun putting together meals; that is if you can exert the self control to stay in one night. We are a city of highly acclaimed restaurants in all price ranges. You will find, farm to table establishments along side little immigrant eateries, and gourmet pizza joints. We also have unique food trucks on the promenade, where you can grab a spot to picnic on the rocks, by the water, or further up, on a grassy hillside.
There is a small green space on the side of our building with simple seating, where you can hang out and read, or just sit and do nothing, a welcome respite from a long day on your feet.
Windows open, or air conditioning, your choice. Maine is usually cool in the evenings. Our building is home to four condos; our fellow owners are friends, who live here full time. We ask that you keep this in mind.

Neighbourhood highlights

This particular neighborhood in Portland has blossomed into a thriving one, with people living here from everywhere, and from all walks of life. It offers a real ocean experience, a summer vibe, that sets it apart from the more crowded streets below. Because of its location at the top of Portland and at the end of the Peninsula, it feels very open with water on three sides, quaint streets intertwined, culminating at many points somewhere along the Promenade, the focus of life here. Several coffee shops, two neighborhood markets, a gallery, playhouse, and several small businesses, just enough to offer you an alternative to the more bustling activity of downtown. The Portland Observatory, an historical point of interest sits on Munjoy Hill, a great place to look out over the, and the water beyond. This neighborhood and our condo give you a comfortable, and bright place for the days and nights when you feel like staying close to home.
You can enjoy a beautiful sunset while overlooking the city scape, from Fort Sumner Park, just around the corner from us. From here, you can get down to Washington Ave, still a part of the Munjoy neighborhood, by way of the Fort SumnerTrail, a shortcut down a woodsy path. In the last few years this street has become known as the latest 'restaurant row' in Portland. It his here that you will find craft beers and original cocktails. You might wander a few doors down, and find a chef owned eatery hailed by a national foodie magazine, and right next door, a small immigrant restaurant, introducing you to native food from a particular area in Africa, or South America. Lots of choices, on this street as throughout Portland, in general.

My work: I am a teacher and a writer. Jim, is a carpenter, artful and smart w/his renovations.
My husband and I believe in the concept of sharing our home with people, like us, who have the travel bug. My being a substitute teacher, with flexibility and a Airbnb Superhost, with my husband, we are able to provide an income during our 'retirement. Jim is a life long carpenter with an eye for what makes a space visually unique, yet practical. We have years of experience sharing our homes with travelers, always keeping in mind, what makes a place both comfortable and inspiring for ourselves and for you, our guest. Traveling for us means observing how people live their lives in a place often very different from where we call home. But, beyond the obvious differences we are reminded every time, that people are not so very far apart, in the end. We like that Airbnb helps us all to see this. We also think by assuming the roles of both host and guest, we bring a thoughtful perspective to the Airbnb experience.
