Welcome to the Hop Garden Shepherd's Hut. Located on a small family farm in its own private field surrounded by trees in rural East Sussex. The hut is the perfect retreat from the modern world and ideal for those looking to slow down. Highlights include the wood burner for keeping warm during the winter and the outdoor fire pit for cooking. There are lots of lovely walks on the farm and locally, along with a great pub. It is also around 15 mins by car to the beach at Cooden, Bexhill.

The space
The space has been thoughtfully designed and decorated with a scandi vibe, creating a peaceful and cosy setting. The hut is insulated which keeps it cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and we have a wood burner to provide additional heat. There is a comfortable double bed with fresh linens, a seating area with foldaway table, and chairs, a kitchen dresser, with all crockery provided and complimentary tea, coffee and milk, and a camping gas hob for cooking and boiling the kettle. We are off grid, so lighting is from candles and led lanterns. We can help you with a battery pack if you need to charge your phone.

Outside, there's a whole private field (which was once a hop garden more than a 100 years ago) and woods to enjoy. The farm is home to all manner of wildlife such as foxes, badgers, deer and birds of prey. It is also home to a small flock of sheep between February and April before lambing season begins. Next to the hut there is an outdoor cooking area with a bench. We love cooking over fire and want others to have a go too, so there is a fire pit, tripod and plenty of logs, along with a bench to sit and enjoy the experience.

There is a mains cold water tap behind the hut and a compost toilet in a separate horse box, located next door.

The hut is a short 15 minute drive to Cooden beach and Bexhill. Hastings and St Leonards are around 25 minutes. The historic town of Battle is also a short drive. The South Downs are around 30 minutes away in Eastbourne with lots of lovely scenic walks and home to some fantastic vineyards to visit.

A bit further on from Hastings is the lovely town of Rye (around a 45 minute drive) - a great spot for Brunch and shopping for antiques.

During your stay

The hut is set in its own private field and is just yours to enjoy. Parking is half way along our long private farm track and then a 5 minutes walk to the hut. If possible we recommend you arrive during daylight as there are no outside lights and it can be tricky to find the hut (though we can arrange to meet you at the parking area and light the fire on request). The farmhouse is at the top of the farm, a short drive or 10 minute walk away from the hut. We sometimes have produce available to buy from our farm, so if you’re planning on having a BBQ let us know.
