The space

The cottage has one huge bedroom, walk in closet, master bath with jacuzzi and shower, a second bath, laundry room, loads of closets, gas fireplace, open floor plan, separate garden.

Guest access

This rental offers up to two 12'X 12' stalls and separate five acre pasture for those who wish to bring their horse(s). A five month commitment is required to bring horses onto the farm. There is access to H.I.T.S. in Ocala (25 minutes) and Gainesville (12 minutes). The University of Fl in Gainesville offers theatre, movies, dance, The Harn Art Museum, and much more.

Interaction with guests

I live in a separate house on the farm which allows me to take care of any unexpected needs. However, I won't have any interaction with guests as I intend this rental to offer privacy and tranquility. The farm--Friesians at John's Lane Farm-- is also home to horses, chickens (fresh eggs are always available), ducks, donkeys, sheep, and goats.

The neighbourhood

The accessibility to Gainesville is in wonderful contrast to the rural private nature of my farm.
Guests will enjoy the night sky, the fragrances of the natural fauna and flora-- the natural beauty of this farm is extraordinary. The small town of Micanopy is five minutes away by car if you want some small town charm or to do some antiquing.

Getting around

Getting around requires a car. There will be available parking for one car or truck in the broodmare barn.

Other things to note

For those who wish to spend some time in paradise - this location should be one to consider. Ideal for the writer, artist , nature, and, of course, the horse lover!

House Rules

I would expect my guests to be respectful of me, my property and my animals. Pets are welcome as long as they are house broken and do NOT attack other animals. I do not permit pets on the furniture and/or beds! There is no smoking on the farm. Entering pastures and/or chicken runs is not permitted.

Maggie was a wonderful host! We enjoyed our stay so much. It is a beautiful cottage and property, with views of the horse pastures. Maggie was a wonderful host and shared her chickens and horses with us. My kids got to collect chicken eggs for breakfast and pet the horses and donkeys! The cottage is just lovely and had everything we needed to be comfortable. My kids were sad to go!

Magical. This is the word that comes to mind when describing Maggie's incredible farm. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at home. The cottage is perfect and the views of the farm and the beautiful horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, chickens are practically right outside the door. We brought our 3-year-old dog, Fiona and her doggie pal, Bella, and the two dogs had the time of their lives. Maggie, the owner is absolutely wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed admiring all of her artwork in the cottage. We didn't want to leave and now cannot wait to go back!

Maggie is the perfect hostess, every detail was covered in advance and she was there to welcome us to her property. We can not say enough about the home and property, the cottage is very large, the bed is extremely comfortable, it is like home away from home. It is such a beautiful and peaceful setting, my wife and I fell in love with it right away. Maggie had fresh eggs, juice, coffee, wine and fruit waiting for us, and fresh flowers from the garden as well. No hotel could compare, we will definitely be back as long as Maggie would have us. Best experience to date. Thank you so much!!

Maggie's farm and cottage are beautiful, and a very nice place to stay. The house inside had everything I needed, and is larger than it looks in the listing photos, which don't really do full justice to the place. Maggie was very helpful and made sure I had everything I needed. And the two donkeys in the field next door were very sweet and charming.

What an incredible experience! Horses, goats, sheep, donkeys, gorgeous chickens, fresh eggs in the morning, beautiful green country fields, and Maggie made sure we felt right at home in the private cottage. It's a beautiful place. My husband and I have never had such a relaxing stay anywhere. The sky is so quiet and dark in the evening, my husband saw a comet zip through the sky--it was a first for him. We can't wait to visit again. Thank you so much Maggie.

Maggie was a very gracious host. Her home is beautiful and spacious. She left us fresh cut flowers and a bowl of fresh fruit. She even provided us fresh farm eggs for breakfast. It is a beautiful spacious home in a blissfully peaceful setting.

I am an artist working in sculpture, printmaking and children's book illustration. I have raised Friesian horses from Holland and have a small herd on my farm among other animals such as goats, donkeys, sheep and chickens. I love to hear wonderful stories; enjoy the company of enlightened positive people. I treasure my solitude and independence.

I've been told that I'm a good cook and can actually bake something if I follow the directions and NOT improvise. I could not live without my children and grandchildren as well as my dear friends. I am a fiercely loyal friend and a direct candid communicator. I could not live without my horses. Paris is my favorite city after my birthplace New York City! I love New York City feeling a huge connection to the people who live and work there. I could better describe this connection as tribal or a kindred spirit. I enjoy reading Joyce Carol Oats, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hursten - Rolling Stone, NPR radio , PBS...I am a museum junkie - fixated on galleries in Washington D.C. New York City, of course the world's major museums - I've secretly always wanted to live in the Met riding the armored horses into battle; having days, weeks to leisurely explore all its treasures.
When I am a guest my mantra is: HELP do the dishes, clean up after myself, be respectful of my host's time and property. When not sure about something ask.
I expect guests to be respectful and considerate; to communicate their wishes clearly so that everyone is on the same page.
