About this listing

A tranquil and private mountain retreat where water, forest and mountains will re-awaken the soul.
Set high on the mountain slopes of Hout Bay, Blackwood Log Cabin has panoramic views across the lush valley to the mountains beyond. The 2 bedroomed house sleeps 4 with 2 bathrooms.

The space

Natural Surrounds.....The cabin is set in two acres of indigenous garden and forest. The natural swimming pool, low slung hammock and sun beds, make it a perfect natural place to unwind.

Perfect Position......This warm, welcoming home is perfectly positioned for exploring the peninsula and the city. It is only minutes away from the beach, restaurants and cafes. The V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain cable car are 20 minutes away. Constantia Wine lands and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are less than a 5 minute drive away.

The Home Itself.......

The main bedroom has a queen bed and glass sliding doors that lead onto a private covered deck with a hammock. The two large windows look out to the mountains where the sun rises. A Victorian bath offers beautiful views to the forest and mountain peaks. A toilet and basin complete the en-suite bathroom.

The second bedroom has twin beds and glass sliding doors that open onto the main deck. The large window looks to the mountains where the sun sets.

The second bathroom has a walk in rain shower with a large window looking into a Yellowwood tree. The wooden basin and toilet complete the bathroom.

The kitchen is spacious and modern. It is well equipped with a glass-top stove and oven, fridge and microwave. All cooking utensils, crockery and glassware are fit for entertaining guests.

The Lounge has high ceilings and hanging lampshades that mimic silk woven cocoons. The lounge extends onto the deck with foldaway glass doors on three sides that open up to the valley and the mountains beyond.

The deck has wooden table and chairs for the inevitable elfresco dining and evening drinks. There is a barbeque for cooking on the open fire. The swimming pool and sunbeds, a wonderful place to soak up the African sun.

Guest access

The house has it's own private swimming pool for use with the house.

Interaction with guests

We like to check you in and tell you a little about the area if you would like to know. And then we like to offer you your privacy. We are always just a phone call away and are happy to help with anything you may need.

Other things to note

It's wonderful to explore Cape Town but some of our guests just like to be and watch nature. They unwind, read, swim and watch the valley, the mountains and nature.

What an amazing cottage perched on the side of the hill with great views and a private pool. Collette and warren were great hosts with check in and out very easy. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Having a washing machine on hand was also very handy. The cottage was clean and spacious with two large bedrooms and plenty of indoor and outdoor living space. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in the Hout Bay Area.

Perfect location for those wishing to visit Cape Town. The house is in a quiet and close to tourist places. The children feel good (room, swimming pool wifi)  The photos do not lie. We will come back, for sure. Colette advised us very well both on restaurants and travel documents for our children. Thank you for being available even during your own vacation!

Colette & Warren were such friendly & helpful hosts. My parents had an amazing stay and were really sad to leave this dream of an accomodation. Such a pieceful and scenery location. Colette prepared the house with beautiful flowers and a delicous red wine. Warren offered to light the fire for our arrival and made it so nice. The wifi connection was better than anywhere else. The accomodation super clean. The view incredible! 5 Stars for 5 Star hosts. We will definitely come back. Best regards Alissa

The views from this cabin are wonderful, especially sunset—great for sundowners and a braai (barbecue). The interior is typical log cabin style: comfortable and welcoming. The house is a convenient drive to restaurants, supermarkets and Cape Peninsula attractions. One of the bathrooms, including wc, are located in the main bedroom but the view from the tub quickly dispels any initial reservations. The second bathroom is a more private affair with a lovely shower and another pleasant view. Overall we had a great time and hope to go back for another visit.

Amazing place! A perfect get away for rest and relaxation. Collette and Warren were friendly and kind host- even leaning some breakfast in the apartment for us since we arrived late at night. Would love to come back and stay! Beautiful views and poolside!

Not that great of an experience. Wifi did not work the first twenty four hours that we were at the cabin and our call to Colette to ask for assistance was answered with a rather smug response that it has worked for everyone else. Only on a second call the next day did she reveal that it needed to be reset which of course solved the problem. So I guess it works for everyone if she bothers to take the time to explain how to reboot the system for you. Hot water disappeared halfway through our stay at the cabin and our calls to the caretaker for assistance were met with bewildering answers which never really explained why we were not getting hot water. One toilet stopped filling with water after being flushed. By then we had stopped calling for any help as none was ever given without a struggle. Remote didn't work to the television. If these amenities are advertised as being offered with your stay, then I expect them to work. The location is not convenient to anything. There is absolutely nothing nearby.

Response from Colette:
What a disappointing review. Days before Victor arrived, the group had an accident outside of Johannesburg. Fortunately nobody was seriously injured but of course their travel plans were disrupted. They preferred to cancel their booking but when they realised they would lose money through airbnb cancellation policy, they continue with the booking. I was on the phone to Victor and his friend James numerous times a day for 2 days while they tried to solve their problems with flights to get to Cape Town. For Victor to imply that I was not at the other end of the line is quite unfair. Victor complains that 3 things didn’t work. The WiFi, the toilet and the hot Water. With regards to the Wi-Fi, I received 1 call regarding this. I asked him to reset it and this solved the problem. I asked him to call me if he had any other problems and I didn’t hear from him again. Certainly if he had hot water issues and toilet issues, I would have called our plumbers to attend to the problem. Unfortunately I am not able to help if I don’t know about them. It is unfair for him to say that ‘nothing’ worked. The reason Victor chose Blackwood Log Cabin was that he loved the outdoors and nature and this is really what Blackwood Log Cabin is about. So, no it isn't within walking distance of shops or restaurants - it really is in nature and you do need a car. The group were initially going to hire a car but after they had had an accident, they decided not to. I can completely understand their decision and I am sure this did have a negative impact on their stay. I am disappointed that Victor feels I was ‘smug’. No matter how many calls I get (I got many calls before they arrived but only 1 regarding the internet problem), I always try to attend to the problems - this is important to me. I take the bathroom notes about being unclean on board and will address these issues with the housekeeper immediately.
