Welcome to Black Bear Guesthouse at Welverdien [vel – fur – deen] Lodging, a well-deserved vacation retreat. Get away from the crowds and relax in rustic style accommodations layered with the comforts of home. Your 1-bedroom, 1-bath guesthouse sleeps 4 comfortably with a full kitchen, outdoor fire pit and relaxing hot tub with plenty of parking. Only minutes from year-round recreation here along the scenic Lewis River highway, gateway to the majestic Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.

The space
We have worked hard to create an amazing guest experience and we can’t wait to share it with you! Your guesthouse is fully furnished and stocked with all the basics you need to make your stay relaxing and comfortable. Enjoy sleeping on a comfy memory foam queen-size bed in your private bedroom. The sofa bed pulls out to a full-size bed and all the linens including a down alternative feather bed topper are tucked away in the storage chaise. There is a full kitchen, walk-in shower and washer/dryer. Our main house is detached and close by but separated by a fence for your privacy and ours. Enjoy your morning coffee listening to the plethora of birds singing and chirping in the early hours. Then look forward to finishing your day off around the fire pit or soaking it up in the hot tub.

Your guesthouse offers a great location for rest and relaxation as well as a “base camp” for recreational adventure expeditions. Enjoy a leisurely drive to Windy Ridge Viewpoint to take in the scenic beauty of Spirit Lake on Mount St. Helens. Another day you might want to take in a day of fishing, swimming, boating and kayaking at 1 of 4 amazing lakes just minutes away. Looking for hiking trails? We offer 13 acres of private forested hiking trails along our creek. We also back up to public land for hiking and horse back riding. Bring your horse and have access to thousands of acres of public land logging roads and trails. Please send us an inquiry if you have a horse, we offer horse corrals along with your stay for a small extra fee.

Looking for winter fun? Head up to Marble Mountain Sno-Park for some snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snow shoeing. The possibilities are endless from the experienced outdoor enthusiast to the novice tourist looking for comfortable drive and park recreation options.

For boaters, larger vehicles, trucks and trailers, no problem, we have a separate gravel round-a-bout parking area that can accommodate all your parking needs. PLEASE NOTE: This guesthouse shares a wall with our other space. If you are sensitive to noise we've received feedback that walls are thin and you will be able to hear some noise next door. For larger groups check out our other space Elk Guesthouse listed as "Cozy Rustic Retreat with Year-Round Recreation."

Where you’ll be

Ariel, Washington, United States

This is an amazing location and it's not just cause we live here. We are situated just off of the Lewis River Highway across from Lake Merwin Reservoir. We are half way between Woodland and Cougar which are each 20 minutes in either direction. Our property backs up to thousands of acres of State Land and just a drive away from millions of acres of outdoor recreational fun. Heading east from us is the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Historic Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, the Ape Caves, the Trail of Two Forests, many different lakes and much more. Get your National Forest Pass, State Land Pass, and other fishing or hunting licenses either in Woodland or Cougar. Our guest book includes all our favorite local haunts and eateries.
