First of all, Stefano is an incredibly nice and accommodating host, and super easy to communicate with. The apartment is also in a great location a few minutes from Harvard Yard, and is an unheard of bargain for the area. Having said that, there are some issues that I don't feel previous reviews have addressed, so here are some pros and cons: Pros: Light and airy, stays nice and warm even when frigid out, good wifi, nice livingroom. The laundry room was never busy and had newer washers and dryers which worked well. And again; GREAT location! Cons: The apartment was in part not clean at all when I arrived, so I had to do that myself. There towel/linen situation is very sparse also, so bringing some of your own stuff might be smart, if possible. The oven can't be used as it is covered in old gunk, and the upstairs neighbors were at times very noisy (the floor dividers are thin and probably wood and they stomped around up there for hours on end). So overall it was a little bit of a mixed experience, but Stefano's place did rescue me when I was getting desperate finding a place over Marathon weekend, for which I was grateful. :)
It was an absolute delight to stay at Stefano's apartment! Stefano himself was out of town when I was in the States, though I did have a short but lovely breakfast session with him on the day I left. He kept in touch with me and responded very promptly regarding any concerns I had about my stay, and showed great sense of responsibility and kindness from pre-booking to the end of stay. The apartment looks the same (actually even better!) as the photos here. It was very spacious, clean and cozy, though a bit too big for myself only as I told Stefano :) The neighbourhood is residential, safe and quiet - around 10 minutes walk from Harvard Yard & T station, which was very convenient, esp. if you're doing something at Harvard during your stay like I did. There is a small grocery store nearby, but I found the collection there a bit limited and pricey, so I travelled far for some bigger and cheaper supermarkets for daily goods. But generally speaking, you can find everything you want in the neighbourhood by Harvard Yard, including cafes, boutiques, restaurants, etc. I would definitely recommend this listing to anyone travelling to Boston!
This was my first trip on Airbnb, and I was a little nervous, but Stefano was great and totally eased my nerves! He wasn't around to coordinate key drop-off, but his friend Z was, and was very friendly. I just texted him 30 min before I got there, and he drove over to show me in. The apartment itself looks just like the pictures, and was clean, uncluttered, and equipped with the essentials (two towels, sheets, blankets, wifi, great heating, a vacuum, hair dryer, etc.) Though I had to bring some of my own things (toilet paper, tissue paper, shampoo), Stefano was very gracious and let me have access to everything in the apartment, including his full kitchen, fridge/freezer, and there was laundry in the 1st floor. The kitchen isn't equipped for professional chefs, but there were pots, pans, and two working stove tops. The apartment was big enough for me to cook dinner with 3 other friends and enjoy it at the kitchen island. (There's also an unpictured kitchen table with 2 chairs.) The building is in a great location -- close to a lot of buses, and 10 minutes to the Harvard Square T station -- and very safe. The neighbors were cordial when I saw them in the halls or elevator, but not very chatty. The building was very safe (there's two locks on the door in case you are concerned), and as a single person living alone I never felt unsafe walking home at night or staying in the apartment alone at night. The neighborhood is residential, with lots of apartment buildings and cute Boston-style homes. It seemed to be a lot of families, and there's a children's school right across the street. There's Darwin's (an amazing cafe and sandwich shop) around the corner, as well as a small convenience store that has some groceries and dry foods. Broadway Marketplace is right around the corner, on the way to the T, so I was able to grab groceries on my way back from work - very convenient! Stefano was very communicative throughout, responding quickly to texts and emails, and even explaining to me step-by-step how to find the charger for the vacuum. I would definitely recommend the place.
