I was looking forward to my stay at Austins place. From the photos he posted online, the place looked immaculate. It seemed to be very up-to-date, clean and fresh. When I walked in the apartment, I was less than impressed. The carpets were badly stained, the shower doors, floor and door track were quite dirty. The fan blades had not been dusted in quite some time with a substantial amount of dust. The cabinet doors in the kitchen were broken. We had to find extra toilet paper and refill the soap dispenser ourselves. We had 3 people and there was only 1 bed. We were told there was a pull out couch which was untrue and we had to blow up the air mattress ourselves and make the bed. I expected much more from the previews and pictures posted. On a brighter note, it is a quick one block walk to Hollywood Blvd and easily accessible.

The apartment was okay but I think it is overpriced. It is old, the carpet is full of stains and the shower is mouldy.

When I read the reviews for this unit, I noticed that there were a couple of negative reviews. That's common anywhere, but what struck me as odd was how Austin, the host, responded to them. He jumped to being nasty and accusatory. This should have been my red flag because why would a professional person resort to that behavior? Clearly I should have taken my own advice. The host, Austin, was rude. There was a safety issue the night I moved in and after I made him aware of it, I vacated upon the suggestion of one of his employees. I shared that someone had tampered with the door and unlocked one of the locks. Austin got verbally aggressive and accused me of lying. He said, "he heard" that I didn't like the place from the start, as if that was my true reason for leaving. It was true that there were some issues like the dark hallways and garage, and the garage smelling like urine (this was in other people's reviews too), but the unit wasn't that bad to be honest. Not a hotel but decent. He also said that he was willing to give me a partial refund only if I would not tell Airbnb what happened. Shady! In what professional business transaction would someone call you a liar or ask you to withhold information from the company arranging your stay? Ethical people don't resort to name calling or sneaky behavior. I told Austin that instead of assuming that I was lying about the front door being tampered with and unlocked, he might actually consider that I was telling the truth so that he can investigate for the safety of other guests. There was a very polite and professional employee named David though. I'm sure now that I've shared my experience, Austin will shoot back with unkind, character maligning, and perhaps call me a liar again. It's very Trump-esque.

Pros: The location of the Airbnb is perfect if you want to be by the Hollywood Blvd scene. The bed was comfy. Cons: The picture used of the outside of the building is not the actual building, which is a bit deceiving. Our contact was said he would meet us in 20 mins at the location listed, he was 40 mins late. The apartment could use some updating, carpets and sofa is heavily stained. A lot of dust in bedroom/bathroom. The bathroom was an eye sore. The shower walls were not maintained. If you are into very clean space, this might not be the place for you. Location is great, cleanliness of apartment, not so much.
