We welcome you to come and visit our little piece of heaven perched on the low bank of the Grand River.

Meadow River Camp cottage is tucked into a sheltered corner lot where you can stay in your bathing suit all day and basks in the sun from sunrise to sunset.

All you need to do is bring your holiday mindset and we do our best to ensure that you have a wonderful cottage experience in this sheltered river meadow on our beautiful island

The space
River Meadow Camp Cottage offers you the closeness to nature found in a campground but it also has the comfort, convenience and privacy of a cottage.

Under giant birches, River Meadow cottage has been built out from the motor home bus with the addition of a bedroom with a queen size bed, a TV room with a single bed at one end of the room, a sun room and a half-bath.

There is a small cabin at the back of the main cottage with a full bathroom...shower, toilet, sink, and washer and dryer as well as a set of bunk beds.

The sun porch is a large window-enclosed room perched (literately) on the riverbank and offers a lovely place to read, snooze or dine while watching the sunset.

The tide is out most of the day and young children can splash around in bathtub warm water chasing minnows and hermit crabs and never get deeper than up to their knees.

For those who like to have a refreshing swim, the tide is high enough for a swim in the morning and around sunset. The tide is always out during the summer afternoons. Shore shoes (water shoes or old sneakers) are recommended to protect tender feet from the occasional oyster shell.

The motor home (bus) kitchen is fully stocked and has an electric stove, dishwasher, fridge, a dinette booth, a day bed and a half bath. The motor home part of the cottage has a ceiling height of 6ft. If you are taller than 5'.10" and you are the chief cook this cottage might not suit you. The main part of the cottage is standard building height.

This camp cottage is not fancy (no granite or steel for those who need modern and sleek), but it has everything a young family or a group of friends need for comfort and convenience with the added pleasure of total privacy, lots of lawn space for kids and puppies, no vehicle traffic and the river outside you door.

Sleeping areas:

1. Bedroom with a queen size bed.

2. The front room has a couch and chair for TV watching and a single bed for sleeping and TV watching. Sometimes the youngest child sleeps on the couch.

3. There is a single bed up in the motor home and a sliding door to close this area off at night.

4. Behind the cottage, there is a small cabin with a washer and dryer and a full bath with a shower, sink, and toilet. There is a set of bunk beds in this small cabin where teens or young adults can sleep.

There is Satellite TV at the cottage, but as there is no landline phone service in this area, and we cannot obtain an unlimited WiFi package. However, we do offer HUB WiFi data service for emails, texts and web surfing but we are not able to offer Netflix etc., as the Bell HUB service at the cottage has to be paid for by gigabit data use similar to your phone data service.

The cottage is literately on the river bank and the water is a short one minute stroll on the board walk .

There is a glassed in sun room that gives you a bird-eye view of well..the birds on the shore.

The motor home part of the cottage is a bus that has been in the family now for many years and we know the day is coming when we have to say 'bon voyage' but not.... yet.

And just a note about the sea weed around the shore, we are in a small cove and we are the only place where seaweed collects anywhere on the whole length of the river and this usually happens after the water is disturbed by a storm.
One day the sea weed is there and often in a couple of days it can blow out to sea again.

We have installed a boardwalk so that you can walk out to the water without walking on the seaweed. Last year there was hardly any seaweed in front of the cottage, and the year before there it was there most of the season. Honestly.. we have no control over the seaweed's coming and going.

There are four cottages other cottages across the small cove and three are occupied all summer. The owners are active seniors.
Please be careful when you leave Alexander Lane and go out onto Mellow Lane, exit carefully and look both ways. The traffic on Mellow Lane is usually limited to these three cottage owners and their guests but they cannot see you before you come out onto the road.

I am a retired teacher and semi-retired gardener. I love hanging out at the cottage during the summer and preserving my garden during the fall. I love going to Mexico every Christmas. I have listed my country home for 5 years now.

During your stay

I usually like to meet my guests when they arrive to show them around the cottage and be there to answer their questions.
If am around when they leave, I also like to say a quick 'thank you' and good bye. If you text message me I can usually respond in a timely manner.
