The space
**More photos coming soon, in the meantime please ask me any questions you may have about the property**
A comfortable rural retreat for families and friends to get together in a beautiful setting. This is a home from home, not just a holiday cottage. It is spacious while being cosy and warm and has everything you would need to feel right at home. Throw the doors open in the Summer or light the log fires in the winter, the house is perfect for all seasons.
The kitchen with its aga is a lovely place to have a cuppa and a good chat while making a picnic or cooking up a storm. There is an electric oven for those who don’t like to cook on an aga, and plenty of other modern appliances.
The sitting room with its open log fireplace is the ideal spot for a wee dram to warm your cockles after a long walk. While the dining room has seen its fair share of excellent family get togethers!
Upstairs, zip and link beds make it possible to have a variety of bed configurations, just ask….

Where you’ll be

Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, United Kingdom

Meikledale Farmhouse sits just slightly up the hill along the picturesque Ewes Valley which means the sun pours in the windows in the morning and the views are wonderful.
The 7 Staines bike area at Newcastleton is just over the moor and there are amazing wild swimming spots all over the place! There are some dedicated local Langholm walks of which 2 are in the ewes valley, but the joy of Scotland is you can go anywhere(as long as you respect the animals and keep dogs on leads)!
The Ewes valley is steeped in history. From the tops of the hills you can look down and see the remains of Roman camps and iron age settlements. You can imagine towers, raiding reivers and battles as well as centuries of agriculture and a thriving wool trade. Now it is a quiet farming valley, forgotten in time.
If you are looking for a little history then Hermitage Castle in the next valley is known as one of the most fearsome strong holdings of the reiver era and a great place to visit.
If you go North on the A7 you will discover Hawick, once a thriving mill town, you can still find some incredible cashmere bargains in the mill shops. Those mills that remain in Hawick still produce cashmere for all the top designers around the world.
Head South and you’ll be in Langholm, our local town, a smaller mill town with no surviving mills, this wonderful example of a border town has a couple of great pubs to get a meal in and few fantastic little shops. If your’e looking for snazzier food then head just over the border to the Hidden River Café or Penton Bridge Inn.
The joy of this location is that there is wilderness on your doorstep to explore. However, if you want to go further afield, head North to the Borders or South to Cumbria and the Lakes. If you go West further into Dumfries and Galloway you’ll find some beautiful beaches, or East to Northumberland, the moors and Keilder Water.
