Shinya was a wonderful host, very cooperative and flexible with our needs even purchasing an air bed to accommodate our needs. Home was cozy and well equipped in a great location to explore all downtown Portland has to offer. This is an urban neighborhood however so those seeking tranquility and extreme quiet might be disappointed.

Shinya was very good about communicating with us about arrival, key pick up and other questions we had about the studio. The photos were accurate- it is a great studio in a convenient location. Nice to have Safeway across the street. We found out the day of our arrival that we would have to wash and change the bed linens and towels- more advance notice of this situation would have helped us out with our timing (and energy). Overall it was a good stay but more clarity about the amenities in the studio might have made our stay even better.

Shinya told me three days before I arrived that I had to pick up the key at another place in Portland (about 1.5 miles). When I left his apartment I had to be fairly early at the airport (around 7h). Shinya told me one day before I left that I had to drop off the key at a different place in Portland (about 2 miles). This meant I had to stand up earlier. He offered me Uber but I would have prefered to know all this in advance. The apartment had no cover sheet. Oven did not work for 1 1/2 days. No soap or something else to wash hands in bathroom. Cleaning lady was still there when I arrived. Its a nice apartment if you dont mind the key thing and if small things (e.g., cover sheet) dont bother you.

I did not end up staying my full time as planned. Due to construction going on in the apartment, I was forced to find a hotel after wasting my first day in town. Though this was not directly Shinya's fault, I felt this was an issue he should have known about in advanced as a host. I did receive my money back and Shinya was overall willing to understand my frustrations. Side note: In order to pick up the keys, you will need a car. Something I was not aware of and cost me a lot of walking time back and forth.

This was my first time using Airbnb and Shinya's place was awesome. If you're planning on visiting downtown Portland a lot, this location is great. The street car and bus stops were all within a block and there's a Safeway just down the street. As for the place itself, it's nice and private with lots of hip decor. The place was pretty clean and had lots of windows for natural sunlight. Shinya wasn't in town during the trip, but he was very responsive via text. However, this means you will have to pick up/drop off the keys from someone else (but still within a reasonable distance). Highly recommend!

Everything went smoothly and was easily arranged with Shinya. He's responsive, thorough, and helpful. The place is very well kept, has a unique layout, and the building is easy to find and access. Safeway grocery store across the street, McMenamins two blocks away, Park Blocks-adjacent, public transportation, etc., etc. Nutshelled, it's a great place in a great locale. If you're new to Portland, this is a good intro. If you've lived in Portland before and are now visiting (as was my case), Shinya's place makes a good base of operations. One recommends.
