About this listing

Made of wood and stone, with solar shower and composting toilet, this is a cozy rural getaway, an invigorating walk from town 8mn and from the lakeside 15mn. A place to turn off the gizmos and get back in touch with the basics. Welcome!

The space

The view you see in the picture is from the porch. In terms of its uniqueness, I suppose it depends what you are used to. If you are used to cliffside rural living in an open plan wooden house with no wifi, on the quieter edge of an indigenous town in the guatemalan western highlands, this place is no great shakes. The cabin sleeps a couple and two singles comfortably.

Guest access

House, kitchen with gas stove and fridge, garden, pila, solar shower and composting toilet.

Interaction with guests

Depends what your needs are. We can help with general traveling advice, and we will be available in case you need something but won't get in your way.

Other things to note

Heavy luggage is not recommended. Comfortable shoes are.

House Rules

Pets are welcome so long as they dont massacre the garden. Children are welcome but small ones need to be briefed very well on the precautions required for accident-free cliffside dwelling, at least until the raspberry bushes grow a little bushier. Smoking please just outside. We try to minimise non biodegradable solid waste where possible. We are focussed with open flames (candles, stove) as this is a mostly wooden house. If you break anything, please repair or replace it.

We had the most amazing stay in Santa Cruz. Tony's place is beautiful, comfortable, and has the most amazing view of the lake. Tony provides helpful information about where to go in the neighborhood, and both Tony and his neighbor Pablo were helpful and quick to respond when we had questions.

Staying here was certainly a highlight of our time in Guatemala! Pablo helped us check in and out, and Tony provided us with lots of information about the house and the community of Santa Cruz! The house is beautifully constructed, well equipped, comfortable and peaceful. Given the proximity of neighbors, the orientation and construction make you feel very private. We spent most of our time on the deck, watching the amazing view and changing clouds! If you've stayed off grid before, you'll find this luxurious, and if you've never stayed off grid before, this would be an amazing first time. We definitely wished we could have stayed longer. Thanks to Toby, Pablo and Estela!

The view from the porch was just stunning. If you are looking to disconnect and really enjoy the beauty of the lake, this is the place to be. Tony is a wonderful host. Very helpful. He ensured I was comfortable and was very responsive. Thank you!

If you want a peaceful and tranquil setting this is the perfect place. The wooden cabin has great views of Lake Atitlan which can be viewed from a lovely terrace whilst relaxing in a hammock. The cabin itself is beautiful, homely and open plan. There is a bed downstairs in the sitting room area but also a day bed to the side. The bed at the top of the cabin has great views of the lake and offers more privacy. The kitchen had all the necessary implements to enable you to cook which makes a change! There was no electricity so we used candles which we preferred - making it more cosy. The shower is outside the cabin and down some stairs. It has great views of the lake but would benefit from a bit more privacy. It was luke warm however it was so hot that we did not really mind. We would love to return.

The experience was wonderful. We had a great time. The view was out of this world! Most nights we sat on the porch and watched lightning storms off in the distance, beautiful!! This is a small village, and it was great to see how all of the villages were different. I would deffinitely reccommend staying here. Thanks Tony!

Staying at Tony's place was far beyond anything that I could have expected. Absolute bliss for the few days I was there and I sincerely hope to book it again soon. A lovely place to soak in the wonderful views of Atítlan. Blessed to have been welcomed by Tony and his family. Thank you!

Response from Tony:
You are very welcome, Jesse, and thank you for helping out with the raspberries. Once they make it to May we're golden, it-s just these few dry and dusty months we need to get through. You'll love the place during the rainy season.
