Period charm and quirky features. In popular village of Gilwern, with charming balcony views, cellar games room, luxury bathroom, and quirky reading room.

20yds from Bridge 103 on the Brecon-Mon canal and backdropped against the Black Mountains, the cottage is a beautiful base for walkers, bikers, kayakers, or those simply looking to relax and enjoy the culinary delights of nearby Abergavenny.

Pubs and shops in close proximity, 2 TVs (one smart), unloading area and free public parking.

The space
Full of period features but designed to be comfortable, warm and welcoming. This unique cottage is newly refurbished and designed to sleep four people in 2 x king sized rooms.

A chic and useful hallway welcomes you. A place to take off your muddy boots and coats before settling down for a relaxing evening in the large living/dining space. Generously sized dining table, comfortable sofa area with original stone fireplace and electric stove, and good sized smart TV. Amazon Echo is also connected to our wifi so you can enjoy the usual comforts of home.

A quirky, beamed kitchen where you will find all you need to whip up dinner whilst enjoying a glass of wine. Washing machine, fridge freezer, microwave & iron.

A spiral staircase leads to the second floor and a light, airy landing. 2 x comfortable king sized bedrooms to maximise comfort during your stay. Towels, bedlinen & hairdryer provided.

The landing also leads to the balcony area with seating. This sunny space provides sunset views over the hills; and the Sugarloaf summit peaks down at you over the rooftops.

A luxurious and uniquely designed bathroom with large rain shower and separate bath is the perfect place to relax after a long day exploring historic local towns. Lie back in the bath and listen to the river rushing below in the Old Mill.

Underneath the property in the old wine cellar is our games/movie room. Boardgames, a rustic bar, bluetooth speakers, and a kid's games table can be found in this unique space. A second large TV with PlayStation 4 can be found in this quirky room, allowing you to play DVDs and access your subscription services. We provide a good selection of DVDs, and PlayStation games. The comfortable beanbags are perfect for both movie or game nights.

A bright and novel reading room at the rear of the living area is the perfect space to get some time to relax and finish that book you've been meaning to read. Curl up in our giant armchair and enjoy your time in this quiet and pleasant space.

------------------DOGS-------------------

We are happy to host small/medium housetrained, clean and polite dogs. We will provide clean, and good sized dog bowls. We ask that you get permission to bring your four legged friends prior to booking; and we charge an £25 extra per dog, per booking. Dogs must not be left unattended in the property as we have neighbours. Some dogs may struggle with the staircases, but at your own risk we are happy for clean dogs to go upstairs to enjoy the balcony with you. However, dogs are prohibited from the bedrooms.

Where you’ll be

Gilwern, Wales, United Kingdom

Gilwern has 3 bustling pubs, including the boutique Towpath Inn that hosts a popup food stall every Friday and sublime food from their own kitchen; and The Beaufort that serves good beer and pub-grub every day.

A fantastic local butchers/deli, several local corner-shops, and a yummy fish & chip shop - you won't be going hungry here!

E-bike hire, and two canal boat hire services are available in the village itself; with a day boat hire service operating from nearby Goytre Wharf.

Closest supermarkets are in nearby Abergavenny, along with innumerable independent restaurants, wine bars, cafes and shops. And of course the famous Food Festival every September. Free parking in Abergavenny can be found in Byefield Lane Car Park (charges apply on Tuesdays).

Hi, I'm Matt and should you choose to stay at the 'Old antique shop' I will be your host and point of contact. The house name is no gimmick, it really was the village antique shop many years ago, we even found the "antiques" sign in an undercroft when renovating the property, which is now proudly displayed in our cellar bar/games room. My partner and I both work full time and recently decided to purchase a property local to us as a project and investment opportunity. We viewed the old antique shop and offered the very next day. We decided on holiday let accommodation via airbnb as we have also used the service many times for trips away, and wanted to allow travellers and guests the opportunity to bring their four legged friends with them, something we found difficult on other commercial holiday booking platforms. We hope you (and the doggo's) have a wonderful stay and enjoy the scenic views, canal-side walks and fantastic local pubs! For guest assurance, in addition to the Airbnb 5 step enchanted cleaning, we also undertake regulate lateral flow tests prior to cleaning the property.

We live 1/2 mile outside of Gilwern village up the hill towards the old quarries (another great place to go walking!), and can be contacted easily via phone or email at any time. You will have sole access to the property via a keysafe box.
