Our guesthouse is in the spectacular Sonoran Desert just 20 miles NW of central Tucson. This quiet rural area surrounded by Catalina State Park and Coronado National Forest offers excellent hiking, biking and bird watching. We also have easy access to stores, restaurants, and downtown.

The space

Casita Verde means "Little green house". It is painted a soft green to blend in with its desert surroundings. Surrounded by trees and shrubs the casita is separate and private from the main house. The space is bright and cheerful with large windows and two skylights for lots of natural light. The furnishings and decor are chosen with comfort, convenience and aesthetics in mind.

In the casita you will enjoy:
- 400 sq. feet of self contained living space decorated in contemporary southwest style
-Queen bed with extra pillows and down comforter (down alternative
available)
-TV with basic cable service for news and entertainment
- Kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee makers including
French press, electric hot water kettle
- Freshly ground coffee and an assortment of teas to welcome you
- Basic condiments: sugar, honey, mayo, mustard, oil, vinegar, salt & pepper
(with prior notice we are happy to stock needed groceries for your arrival)
- Bathroom with shower; thick fluffy towels and bathroom amenities

Outside the casita is your private outdoor shade ramada with table and chairs and a gas BBQ exclusively for guest use.

The casita is surrounded by natural desert landscape with stunning views of mountain ranges to the east, north and south. You can watch the sun set across the vast western horizon and see the lights sparkle in the valley below. In this peaceful retreat you're invited to wander our desert garden and watch the abundant bird and wildlife show. Bird feeders and fountains around the property draw a variety of hummingbirds, Gambrel's Quail, Cardinals, Pyrrhuloxia, Phainopepla, Abert's Towhee, Cactus Wrens, Roadrunners, Verdins, finches, hawks, bunnies, lizards, and many more! At night listen for the coyotes and owls.

From the property walk 1/4 mile to the National Park trailhead, or head south 5 miles to popular Catalina State Park.
To the north you'll find the Biosphere, and Oracle State Park. Hiking, biking and bird watching are easily accessible activities in this beautiful area.

2 miles away is a shopping center with a major supermarket, a post office, and local restaurants and businesses. Within a 15-20 minute drive you will find major stores, a multi-screen cinema, and excellent restaurants with a variety of cuisines.

Guest access

Guests have their own private outside seating area under a shade ramada, and are welcome to share the garden, pathways, and other seating areas.

Interaction with guests

We live on the property and will always be available either in person or by phone if you have any questions or need help with anything. We're happy to offer tips on local hikes, restaurants, or anything that will make your stay with us more enjoyable. We also respect your privacy and understand if you prefer to be left to yourself.

Other things to note

To reach our property you'll travel 1/4 mile on an unpaved road through the neighborhood. The turnoff to our house is used by just two other properties so there is little traffic in our immediate area.

You will have your own parking space next to the casita.

Dan and Krista greeted us with a warm welcome and fresh coffee. The location is exceptional with views of the Catalina mountains, with the opportunity to watch the sun go down in the garden. The garden has a natural look that fits in with the surrounding landscape, and with feeders for the hummingbirds and other local species, the wildlife to feel at home as much as we did. The Casita is compact, comfortable and contemporary. An excellent place to stay within walks close by. Peter & Pamela

The Casita was very clean and very well furnished with everything we needed for our stay. The comfy bed and quiet surroundings made for excellent sleeping. The beautifully maintained grounds with all kinds of desert plants made for excellent viewing of many different birds as well as bunnies and even a coyote. There are also stunning mountain views to the east as well as those to west to see the colorful sunsets across the valley. Dan and Krista are wonderful hosts. They were happy to answer our questions and provide suggestions for area restaurants. They were very knowledgeable about the area and were very helpful with suggestions on the parks and trails. Overall this is a fantastic place for those looking to get out of the city.

our week at the Casita Verde was a lot more than we had even envisioned from the pictures. The inside was so beautifully crafted and the color choices were soothing and the perfect touch to compliment the lovely tended gardens. This has been our best Airbnb experience--not much could top this! Peg and Ron, S.Bend, IN

Dan and Krista are the perfect hosts and very organized. Everything we needed was made available to us when we arrived. We were very comfortable and enjoyed watching all the birds who fed at the many feeder stations. The casita faces west and that makes for great sunsets. The primary view towers over the Oro Valley; a great vantage point.

Dan and Krista's place is very special. We loved the fact that it was very peaceful and felt so natural. You can tell that a lot of love and hard work went into creating the inside as well as the outside. This place is convenient to many of the places we visited: Sweetwater Wetlands, Tucson Audubon, Catalina State Park, Peppersauce Canyon, and Sabino Canyon. The sky was beautiful at night with a full moon and so many stars. We grilled out, bought roadside family made tamales, then collapsed in the comfy bed each night. We found a personal note to us on entry, fresh fruit, snacks, and lots of books and pamphlets on the area. Never did turn on the TV!!!! This place is for birders or romance, or quiet, private time. Highly recommend Nan and Curtis (from NC)

We managed a very nice seasonal inn for 15 years, which is located on an island in Maine. We have been spending our winters in Tucson for 15 years. Our passions are hiking and working on our extensive garden, which is a collection of hundreds of native plants and trees. We really enjoy cooking and sharing our place with friends and guests, especially at sunset.
