The space
A Wee Bit History for You:
The Healing Cabin sits upon the original foundations of Clan MacNab, and the Laird's old mansion (Auchmore House, built by the 4th Earl of Breadalbane and was visited by Queen Victoria in the 1840’s). Queen Victoria herself writes about this spot from her book 'Leaves from the Journal of Our Life in the Highlands, from 1848 to 1861’. She quotes: "our row of 16 miles up Loch Tay to Auchmore, a cottage of Lord Breadalbane’s, near the end of the lake, was the prettiest thing imaginable. We saw the splendid scenery to such great advantage on both sides. The situation of Auchmore is exquisite, the trees growing so beautifully down from the top of the mountains, quite into the water, and the mountains all around, make it an enchanting spot".
Queen Victoria planted a famous Sequoia tree which grows about 30 metres from your Cabin door. You are also close to the Standing Stone Circles of Killin and the Healing Stones of Saint Fillan.
The Healing Cottage with mountain and loch views is accessed via a private drive. It’s set in it’s own grounds which includes a parking space for 1 -2 cars, stoned garden and a private terrace. To the left of the cabin is a private burn (stream) that runs through the land and to the right is another holiday rental called The Healing Cottage.
The cabin is set up as a glamping style studio with an ensuite and luxury waterfall shower, perfect to unwind after a long walk. There is heating and a fan for summer months as well as a toaster, mini fridge and large kettle.
To encourage healing and relaxation the cabin has been designed for you to switch off, read a book, write a book or do whatever you do when you rest. Therefore there is no WiFi. Phone reception should be available depending on your network but this is not guaranteed.
There are no kitchen facilities (apart from a toaster, kettle and small fridge for continental breakfasts and snacks). We do not permit fires, barbecues or gas burners. Disposable BBQs are allowed. Please do not place BBQs on top of decking wood or any of the furniture as this will damage it. Instead, use on the stones where the car is parked.
Please note, as there is no kitchen, the only sink for cleaning is the small sink in the bathroom. Therefore, if planning on using a disposable BBQ, we recommend bringing compostable plates etc with you to recycle later.
We do not permit fire pits, gas burners or oven rings.
The cabin is located in its own private grounds which includes a large parking space area with washing line, and a private terrace. Everything within this space is yours. Please note the rest of the grounds are private.
THE SURROUNDING AREA
The Healing Cabin has plenty to do close by, including all the historical sites of Killin and the surrounding Rob Roy country. The cabin is in a great position for a range of Munros, including Ben Lawers, Beinn Ghlas, Meall Corranaich, An Stuc and Meall Garbh, with only a 15 minute drive (approximately) to the Ben Lawers Car Park. With Loch Tay on your door step you are also in easy reach of Water Sports.
There are many excellent walks around. The beautiful village of Killin is 0.8 miles away and can be reached in 15 minutes on foot, or a couple of minutes by car. There are a few restaurants, bars and two cafes, as well as a postoffice, Co-op shop and library.
Due to the off-road location, you will need a car to get to the cabin. The road in is via a private farm track road, so please take it slow and enjoy the view.
Please note, to respect other guests on the land, please keep the noise down outside after 9pm. There is strictly no smoking inside the property.
