Description

The space

Our space is quiet, architecturally unique, open concept, in very close proximity to the TTC (public transit subway station). It has one small bedroom with a double bed and a HUGE bedroom with a queen bed and a living room-type space. It has a balcony with a beautiful view of the cityscape and the CN Tower. Many of the walls have been freshly painted (December 2015) and the carpet leading from the front door to the apartment's main floor has been replaced. We do live here, so the closets are quite full in most rooms except the spare bedroom (where they are empty). The couch on the second floor and its accompanying armchair have been recently recovered.

Guest access

TV, Wifi, kitchen, towels, library of books, tranquility, balcony with table and chairs

Interaction with guests

I live in the apartment during the week, but tend to be away on weekends. I hope to meet you upon arrival before my departure. I am flexible with requests for during the week as I have alternate places to stay.

The neighbourhood

I love the variety of delectable ethnic restaurants, relaxed cafes, microbrewery pubs and bars. Here are a few favourites:
Pubs with good food, beer: Tall Boys, Rockwood, and another with a big wolf on the front window. There's also one west of Roxton (my street) with a pineapple out front. A bit $ and unsure if they have food, but they have good cocktails and chill ambiance. There is also The Roxton which is south of our (email hidden) and Roxton Rd. It has a blue triangle as a sign. I recommend the beet salad and the Ruben sandwich.

Restaurants:
1) Thai Room is east of us on Bloor St.
2) Best Ethiopian in the city, but slooooow service (well worth it) called Nazareth. Order a meat and a veg platter between 4 people. Very inexpensive and deeeeelect!
3) Excellent Indian 2 blocks east on Bloor: Banjara and Madras Masala beside each other.
4) Keep walking east to an orange signed Korean restaurant on the corner one block east of Christie St.
5) Ebi Sushi is a few doors down from Saving Gigi (see below).
6) 24 hr McDonald's one block away and a better burger joint at the end of my street on Bloor St.
7) EggsSmart is across from Saving Gigi's. Very cheap eats, but not great food or service.
8) Boom!, is a great breakfast/brunch restaurant south of my apartment, south of Harbord St, slightly west of Roxton Rd (our street) on College St.
Cafes: Saving GiGi, which you can see from our apartment. Delicious, but SLOW service! Fuel is across from the subway station (Ossington). Dooney's Cafe just opened across the street from Saving GiGi. I will check it out soon!
Butcher: Gasparro's- EXCELLENT butcher on the corner of our street and Bloor St. Free run, free range meat.
LCBO (liquor store with some beer) is a 2 min walk away on Bloor St, slightly west of our street.

Getting around

3 minute walk to the Ossington subway station on the Bloor-Danforth line (runs east-west). There is street parking available, but a permit is needed from the city to park overnight. You will most likely be ticketed if you park on the street after midnight without a permit. Uber is always ready as an alternative to taxis. Both are readily available on Bloor St.

Other things to note

I live above a young couple with a baby, so ask guests to be quiet after midnight. I also have quite a few stairs leading to our main floor and about ten to the third floor. This might be challenge for those with mobility issues.

House Rules
No smoking
No parties or events
Check in time is flexible

I have neighbours on the 1st floor with a baby, so please keep the noise down after midnight. No smoking. Pets allowed, but must be cleaned up after (hair). Shoes off at the door, please. Avoid wearing high heels as it is very loud downstairs. No wet clothing, etc., on wood furniture, please! You will also need to purchase a parking permit to park overnight on the street.

This is a lovely roomy space with tons of sun. Well located and plenty of room, but it's loft construction makes consistent temperatures upstairs and down hard to achieve. Would be fine in spring summer and fall but made it somewhat uncomfortable in cold winter.

Response from Carey:
Thanks for your feedback, Judy! My apologies for the difficulty in regulating the temperature on the two floors! I had forgotten to cover two vents in the large master bedroom before leaving. This really helps regulate the temperature on the second floor. I will get the maintenance man look into ways to better regulate the temperature on the two floors.

Carey welcomed my travel companion and I into her home. She stocked the fridge full and cleaned the whole place top to bottom prior to our arrival. The listing was perfectly representative of the place. It was the ideal space for us to stay while we were in Toronto. It was an ideal AirBnb experience.

Carey was a fantastic host! She came by to welcome us in person and makes sur everything was ok with the place, so friendly and nice of her to do that! I highly recommend this place as its conveniently situated right next to the subway, and a bunch of great restaurants and coffee shops. Everything was confortable and we felt right at home.

Carey was an amazing & caring host! She made sure we were comfortable and had all we need around the house. Prior to our arrival, she communicated all the detail of the house and the neighbourhood. She also is super friendly person, that I hope we'll meet again soon either in my hometown or Toronto. Very Recommended!

This was our first Airbnb experience and it could not have been better. Our host was very responsive right from our first inquiry. The apartment is in a great location--very near Little Portugal/Little Italy/Koreantown--and we enjoyed walking to many parts of the City. The apartment itself is even better than the photos - 2 floors, very open, lots of sunlight, and a great view of the CNN Tower and skyline from the deck on the outside stairwell. Walls and shelves hold cool art and objects from our host's global travels. Friends who live in Toronto visited us to enjoy dessert and were highly complimentary--even envious--of the apartment. Carey made sure we had whatever we needed and generously shared the contents of her refrigerator with us and even had a nice bottle of wine waiting to welcome us. Our only note is that if you have a car (and we did as we drove to Toronto), you will want to obtain a temporary street parking permit. It was very easy to do and I obtained it before we even left for Toronto: We would definitely stay here again if our travels took us back to Toronto.

We had a wonderful stay at Carey's house while we visited Toronto. The home was large, clean and well suited for our purposes. Carey was accommodating and gracious, considering we arrived before she was expecting us and she provided many restaurant and bar tips for the neighbourhood. The pictures are a great representation of the home and there was plenty of room for 4 of us with two full bedrooms. The bottle of wine left by Carey was enjoyed as we relaxed at the end of the day on the outdoor deck. We would not hesitate to contact Carey again, should we require accommodations in Toronto.
