My flight was early and after asking, an early check in was fine. Then, I arrived late. Unperturbed, Holger left a note and the keys with the resto next door. The room was spacious, comfortable, in an older building, reminded me of Montreal. Very sweet, there was a fresh towel with chocolates, a bowl with fruit in my room. Funky small kitchen, bathroom (shower was fine), basically, you share the place with the hosts, Holger & Jonathan and they are super. They told me to make use of the kitchen and their convenient mod cons. Holger is an interior designer and has added many great details to the place. It's conveniently in the coolest part of Kreuzberg, close to UTrain or a bus (M29) that travels along Orenienstrasse - to many tourist spots, Checkpoint Charlie and on to Potzdammer Platz central. Anyway, the transit is super and connects everywhere. They smoke, so if you are a smoker, you'll appreciate this laid back space. They keep smoking to the kitchen, so the other rooms are remarkably smoke free, which is great for sleeping. They were both helpful, funny, conversational and great company. Really good spot for the kind of traveller that likes to connect with people and places locally. I was a bit put off for a few minutes, and thought, do I want a hotel? I decided to relax and wait to meet my hosts before basing my decision on a first, very tired traveller response and I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed the neighborhood, the apartment with something like 12 foot ceilings and two, very lovely, likeable individuals who I am sure to stay in touch with. I would go back.
