The perfect romantic retreat, Swallows Rest, is a converted 18th century hay barn. Belonging to the 17th century Grade II listed High Greenrigg House, it offers all the modern conveniences whilst retaining the character of such an historic building. The ground floor contains an open plan living room, dining area and fully fitted kitchen. There is a utility room accessed via a low stone doorframe. Upstairs is a mezzanine floor with king size bed, balcony and luxurious shower room

The space
Swallows Rest cottage contains many original features from the 17th century barn from which is was converted. It is part of the Grade II listed High Greenrigg House. These features include beams, a date stone (1673) and a very low door with a massive stone lintel into the utility room. It is now a cosy open plan space with both central heating and a gas fire in a large stone fireplace.

Where you’ll be

Caldbeck, England, United Kingdom

High Greenrigg House and Swallows Rest cottage are located in a quiet and peaceful area in the North Western corner of the Lake District National Park. This is a World Heritage site. Our nearest neighbour is 400m away. We are surrounded by a common and fields where sheep and cattle graze. We are also less than an hour away from another World Heritage Site: Hadrian's Wall. We have direct access to the Northern Fells. A short walk down a very quiet lane brings you to the bottom of Brae Fell and access to some 23 'Wainright' summits without a single road to cross. The nearest village is Caldbeck (3 miles) which has a village shop, two tea rooms and several craft/wool shops. The famous huntsman John Peel is buried in the churchyard. There are four larger towns just half an hour away where full services and facilities can be found: Cockermouth, Carlisle, Keswick and Penrith.
