Independent home in the Irish Channel. Half of a shotgun double. Within 10 blocks of over 20 bars and restaurants. 1 bed, 1 bath, plus kitchen, dining, and living room. Pull out sofa can accommodate additional guests. Lots of light. Classic porch.

The space

This home was built in the 1890s. Many original architectural details are intact, including four fireplaces (decorative only) and hardwood floors throughout. It is a classic New Orleans style shotgun where each room connects to the next through a main walkway. It is fully independent from the other side of the house, but it does share a wall down the middle.

There is one bedroom with a queen size bed. The sofa in the living room pulls out into another queen. I'd say the house comfortably fits four guests, but you won't have a ton of privacy. (You have to walk through the bedroom to get to the bathroom.)

There is wireless internet, which works better in the front of the house (living, dining) than in the back (bedroom).

I've had tenants living (happily) in this space for the past 4+ years. No major complaints from them, with the understanding that this is an old house so it is not perfectly insulated, etc., although there is central air and heat which works well.

Any questions? Please ask.

This is a GREAT neighborhood. Tree-lined and residential. Walking distance to so many wonderful places to eat, drink, and have fun. Lots of cute stores with a variety of shopping options along Magazine Street - ranging from clothing boutiques to furniture import stores.

Need coffee? Starbucks is four blocks away. If you're willing to venture outside of your coffee comfort zone there are many lesser known but equally delicious local spots. Try Hi Volt, Reservoir, or Mojo.

Restaurant options are pretty much unlimited. Sake (sushi), Juan's Flying Burrito (Creole taqueria), and Lilly's (Vietnamese) are a few of my favorites. Basin has yummy oysters and other locally harvested seafood. All of the places mentioned above are within a 10-minute walk.

Ready to venture out? This location is easily accessible to uptown (Audubon Park) and downtown (French Quarter) - approximately a 10-minute drive in each direction.

There is a bus that runs along Magazine Street in either direction, with a stop two blocks away. You can also walk up to the St. Charles streetcar line in about 12 minutes.

Guest access

The whole place is yours. Please enjoy the front porch too. There is a table outside that will chill your wine for you - just add ice.

Interaction with guests

I have a keyless entry system and and am available by phone call or text message throughout your stay. I'm right next door, but you won't see me much unless we're coming/going at the same time or if you need something.

Maya and Charles were great as hosts both before our visit, answering any questions we had almost immediately and whilst staying in their house. Nothing was too much trouble. We loved staying in their very authentic Shotgun house and it certainly enhanced our stay in New Orleans. The house was just as described and was central for public transport to most areas, particularly the French Quarter!! I would advise anyone staying to purchase a $3 day pass for all buses and Street Cars, it really is great value. Use it as many times as you want on the day purchased. It is in a quiet, residential area, where everyone was so friendly. I would recommend Maya and Charles house to anyone who is going to New Orleans and wants to experience the real area and not the tourist area. Many thanks to you both for helping to ensure our stay in New Orleans was truely a memorable one!!!

We had a great time in New Orleans and Maya and Charles' place was perfectly located for everything we wanted to do - close to Magazine Street and all its restaurant offerings and shops, the Garden District and its lovely tree-lined walks, and a short ride on the streetcar both downtown and uptown. The house itself had all the creature comforts we needed and was in a nice and quiet street. Recommended.

We absolutely loved staying at Maya's place. The house itself is beautiful and the location is great - in the garden district, 5-10 minutes walk to the streetcar. Maya was lovely and really helpful - couldn't have asked for more! We will be back!

Beautiful period property in a great location - 2 min walk to Magazine Street and less than 10 mins from several good restaurants House had everything you could want and Maya was really friendly and helpful It's on the edge of the garden district which is full of beautiful antebellum homes and a 10 min walk from the trolley stop to take you right into the start of the French quarter We have no hesitation in recommending this lovely house to stay in If we return to New Orleans, this would definitely be our first choice Sam and Andy

Originally from California, I moved to New Orleans ten years ago. I've loved living in this great city ever since. I work in a public elementary school, and in my free time I enjoy yoga, biking, baking, reading, netflix-ing, gardening, and of course exploring all the wonders New Orleans has to offer.

Five years ago I bought a traditional-style shotgun double home. It's basically two independent houses that share a wall down the middle. The house was built in 1890! Needless to say it has lots of old-world charm. It also keeps me busy with the occasional project. As an airbnb host I am right next door if you need anything.
