Conveniently located just above the beautiful Skagit Valley in Mt. Vernon, WA, Highland Garden House B & B offers private rooms, full breakfast included, for travelers and visitors needing lodging at reasonable prices. (10.7% taxes collected by ABB.)

The space

(Please, NO SMOKERS, if you smoke, please find another place to stay. We reserve the right to deny you a room, even after you have arrived, if your turn out to be a smoker.) Our two 2nd floor rooms have great views and the stucco and plaster construction of this house, built in 1930, ensure a quiet and restful retreat.
We do not attempt to appeal to everyone, but Highland Garden House Bed and Breakfast might be just what YOU are looking for.
We can be available to check you in between 3 PM and 8 PM, local time. It is essential that you give us an estimated time of arrival within these times.
We include a full cooked breakfast every morning served from 7 to 9 AM. Remember: Full Breakfast is included in the price and we do not add a Cleaning Fee!
The rooms: the South Room is the larger and accommodates 2 persons in a queen size bed. The North Room has a twin size bed and really is only suitable for a single person. The North room is the $51 room, the South Room is $62 per night. Additional persons are $15 per night, per room.
The rooms ARE NOT CONNECTED. The shared full bath is down the hall on the same second level floor.
Highland Garden House is just a 10 minute walk from downtown Mt. Vernon or the new Skagit Station transit center. Cyclists welcome!
This home has the feel of an old-fashioned boarding house/hotel. The sleeping rooms are all isolated from the other rooms by walk-in closet walls. They do not share any common walls!
The common rooms include the kitchen, formal dining room, large living room with TV and gas fireplace, full bath upstairs and half bath on the main floor.
Our neighborhood has sidewalks and is known locally to be one of the best areas to stroll and look at all the old houses, most built between 1900 and 1940.
There are no phones or TVs in the rooms.
Please use Airbnb to make an INQUIRY before you actually book the room. We are actually in business as a B and B and check our emails throughout the day.

Guest access

We are not ADA accessible as both of our rooms are on the second floor.

Interaction with guests

At check-in we give the tour of the place and other information, answer questions, provide advice and maps of the area. In the morning, breakfast is available from 7 to 9 AM. (Eating hot food at 9, not just sitting down :)) Your Host is also available to the Guests at that time. At 9 AM, breakfast is put away and your Host takes up the chores of running the B and B. You may stay until 11 AM, which is the regular check-out time.

Other things to note

We are strictly no smoking in the house or any where on the premises. It is our preference, if you are a smoker, that you please book elsewhere.

From the homemade granola and peasant bread to the comfortably firm bed in my guest room to Dennis's multi-layered knowledge of the area and local history, my experiences at Highland House proved it an excellent home-away-from-home for the three days I was in Mt Vernon researching family history. Dennis is a quietly attentive host of many talents which he skillfully combines to serve the needs of his guests. Highly recommended.

This was the most unique stay i have had with air b and b in lots of different ways. 100% recommend staying with Dennis at his Highland house. He runs a well tailored bed and breakfast our of his home.

Dennis was a wonderful host. He provided me with info about the neighborhood, tips and tricks, and even a great breakfast to get started in the morning. The house itself is clean, comfortable and calming. If I'm passing through then I'll definitely be making a point to stay over again.

Dennis is terrific. He takes great care of, and pride in, his B&B. It's a simple experience - and meant to be so. But if you appreciate a warm, generous host, homemade breakfast, and a comfortable room, you'll like staying with Dennis. The location in Mount Vernon is both quiet and convenient to the town and nearby amenities.

I got to Dennis's house the same time that he returned from a 10.55 miles of bike ride. You have to remember that Dennis is no spring chicken anymore. He immediately offered me his garage do my my motorcycle won't remain outside. He provided me with a quick tour of the house and left me on my own. Taking a nice shower, having a quite place to read my book and having a good night sleep is all I'm after, and Dennis sure provided those to me. I met his lady friend, his sister and remote family from New Zealand over breakfast and we had a charming conversation prior to my departure. I would highly recommend staying with Dennis. It's a charming house occupied my resilient and intelligent man.

Dennis provided a great experience at his home! His north room was perfect for me. It was clean, neat and the bed was comfortable! Dennis makes the most scrumptious breakfast! Homemade granola bars, muffins, oatmeal to go! And the best waffles and fried eggs! He is very helpful and knowledgeable of the area including historical trivia. I highly recommend a stay at Dennis's house on Highland!

Dennis was a very good host, giving me the tour and explaining everything very well. His home was very clean and tidy and in a nice neighborhood. It's obvious that all of Dennis' talents have played out in his B&B.

Dennis was raised in Mt. Vernon, WA left in 1972 and returned in 2001. I know the area well. Your stay is fully hosted by an on site person! We will always be available for your questions and needs, face to face. Interests include cycling, kayaking, camping, hiking, cooking, gardening, geology and history. Dennis lived full time on Orcas Island for 26 years, building an organic produce and flower farm. Twelve of those years were off_the_grid, a popular phrase now, but we just thought we were too poor to have that electricity installed!
