About this listing

Characterful, cosy room in historic Moorish house in quiet street off vibrant square in central Albaicin. Free wifi. Sleeps 2 in comfortable double bed with own shower room and fantastic 15th century gallery area. Use of lovely shared garden patio.

The space

A comfortable double room in a 15th century listed Moorish house with private shower room, historic gallery area and use of garden patio - in the heart of the lovely Albayzin area.

Guest access

You enter the house through a "zaguan" - an attractive foyer with bench and plenty of cushions. You pass through an attractive central patio up a flight of stairs to a Moorish gallery area. The gallery is 15th century and is listed as being of historical interest. Your room is off the gallery and has its own private shower room next to it. Please note that the access to the shower room is via the covered gallery which is open to the patio (i.e. the outdoors!) so it can be chilly in the winter. The gallery is only for your use.

You also have access to a garden patio which is shared with the hosts (a couple) and potentially with a couple from the 1 bedroom apartment downstairs which we also let out via airbnb.

Note: You do not have access to a kitchen but there is a small kettle in your room.

Interaction with guests

We will actually be away in the UK until mid October but we will leave you in the lovely and capable hands of Sandy and Livio. They will be staying on the same floor in a separate apartment. They are very happy to help and answer any questions that you may have - whilst leaving you alone if you prefer. They speak excellent English, Spanish and Italian.

Other things to note

In general parking can be a bit of a challenge in the Albaicin as the streets are very narrow. There’s a couple of options.
a) There is free parking on an open area of land on the edge of the Albaicin next to the Fajalauza ceramic factory. It’s about a 7 minute walk away. (Please note it isn’t an actual secure carpark it’s just on the street – though we haven’t heard of anyone who uses it having any problems.)
b) Alternatively, we have a secure parking space in the basement under the Centro Civico del Albayzin, a 2 minute walk from our house. The cost is 8 euros per night. Please let us know in advance if you would like to use it. Also please note that access to the Albayzin is restricted at certain times. A barrier is up to prevent access Mon to Thur from 11:00-14:00 and 20-24:00. On Fri-Sun and holiday days (festivos) there is also no access between 00:00 and 07:00. The Fajalauza parking area is outside the controlled zone and so isn’t effected.

Anna's place was beautiful. Sandy and Livio made us feel very much and home and were perfect hosts. The location was fantastic. We really enjoyed our time here. The wine and tea were very much appreciated.

Stunning and typical place in the albacyin quarter of Granada. The part of the house in which we stayed was just for us with our own bathroom and terrace overlooking the courtyard so it was perfectly private. Everything was very clean and we were given a bottle of wine on arrival which was much appreciated. We were welcomed by sandy who lives in the adjacent flat who had no problem meeting us very late after our journey from the airport. The room was very comfortable even though there was no air conditioning. Other than being a little bit hot (although that was also due to the time of year at which we came), our stay was wonderful!

We had a wonderful experience in Granada, a gorgeous city, also thanks to Sandy and Livio, the housesitters who welcomed us in. They were cheerful and friendly, Livio was happy to show us around and gave us advice about the best tapas, restaurants and attractions in town. The house is charming and peculiar, with two patio gardens, we had the cozy bedroom and bathroom all for ourselves. Highly recommended!

We are a mature(-ish!) couple who have travelled extensively for fun and work and enjoy meeting other travellers. We are from the UK but have lived in Granada, Andalucia for more than a decade. We love it and are happy to share our knowledge of the area with visitors.
Please note that from mid Jan to mid Sept 2016 we'll be in the UK. You'll be hosted instead by a lovely Italian couple called Sandy & Livio.
We hope you have a fantastic stay in Granada.
cheers
Anna and John
