Dating back to 1851, this early American farm has been in the same family since the 1930s. It has been lovingly cared for and tastefully updated with modern conveniences, all while retaining its period charm.

Set on Main Street in the historic town of Madison, the property offers the experience of a working farm with the convenience of nearby restaurants, wineries, and popular hiking spots.

The space
Rehoboth Farms-Madison is part of a set of historic angus cattle farms in Madison County, Virginia. This particular property is nestled on Main Street in the town of Madison. As you drive up our long driveway you will begin to unwind.

Located in the beautiful Piedmont of Virginia, between the towns of Charlottesville and Culpeper, one can hike Madison County’s own Old Rag Mountain, visit our area’s outstanding Early Mountain, Prince Michel, Revalation and DuCard wineries, swing by Bald Top Brewing Company, visit some of the wonderful local shops and eateries, or just hang at the Farm.

The original house dates back to 1852, showing its period “two over two” roots and still having its original mouth-blown windowpanes. In 1938, the present family took possession. From its roots serving local students with “lawn lunches” in the 1950’s and 1960’s, serving as a wedding venue for two generations of family members within the next 50 years, the house has a casual elegance without sacrificing its Southern charm.

The house was fully upgraded and “gussied up” in 2018: complete interior painting, refinished original oak and heart pine floors, fully upfitting and furnishing four bedrooms, and two kitchens. The two “refuge” reading rooms are fabulous locations for reading solitude when the snow or rain is falling on the metal roofs. Also enjoy the “lodge” living room with attached breakfast/game/puzzle room.

The house has two king bedrooms, the third bedroom has a queen bed, and the smallest bedroom has a single trundle bed. As with most old houses, bathroom space is at a premium. That said, there are two full bathrooms available for guests.

Guest access
Grab our cornhole boards or play croquet in the huge back yard. Better yet--simply swing by Yoder’s Country Market(about 5 minutes from the Farm) and grab a picnic lunch to hang out on the front or back porches or under the shade of our 200 year-old walnut tree.

Inside or out, you will certainly understand why Rehoboth Farms-Madison is a very special place. Sit and relax on our back porch that used to house my grandfather’s milk separator(he would sell milk in Charlottesville on his way to work each day at the University of Virginia as a math professor). Don’t miss the spectacular sunrises from this spot either!

The front porch provides a beautiful location to watch traffic meander down Main Street, with the pinkish hue of sunsets provide a breathtaking backdrop.
Please feel free to reach out regarding your individual circumstances and we will be happy to try to accommodate you. We have extra folding chairs you are welcome to borrow. We will also provide coffee and snacks in the back kitchen.

Although the main floor fireplaces are functional, for safety reasons guests are not permitted to use them.

Other things to note
There are actually two businesses in operation at this property—a wealth management firm and a working angus steer farm. From time to time you may see the farm operators on location but they/we are very respectful of our guests. Make sure you have your phone/camera handy for those special “farm/cattle” moments as the steers love to come to the back of the property and visit while waiting for their “grain treats”.
