About this listing

Come stay at the Nomadic Bull and explore beautiful Gabriola Island. Located a short ferry ride from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, Gabriola offers an idyllic West Coast experience for those that want to get away.

The space

Each room is comfortably furnished and offers a flat screen TV, Netflix, DVD player and over 700 movies to choose from. There is also high speed internet.

Guest access

Guests can come and go as they please. They can relax in a 'Gabe' chair by the pond, on the deck, or in the front room. My goal is for you to enjoy your stay and shamelessly plug the 'Nomadic Bull' to all who will listen!

Interaction with guests

Depends on the guest. I am quite social, so is my son, but we are quite in tune with personal space.

Other things to note

The 'Nomadic Bull' is only 5 minutes by car from the ferry and 3 to the village. The nearest beaches are less then 10 minutes and the furthest are 25. One of the largest parks on the island is a 5 minute walk from the front door.

It is my please respect the furnishings and if you would like a smoke, have one on the deck. As for personal behavior, my 13 year old son is helping me with the business end so I'd appreciate behavior that won't lead him down the wrong path. Pets? Sorry, but we have a black Lab, Heidi, she is an awesome dog, but somewhat territorial. For that reason we are unable to accept pets.

Wonderful location and a terrific host. Scott was most accommodating with rapid response to my questions before the stay and a merciful host during the stay. Gabriola is a delightful island with an artsy attitude and from the Nomadic Bull, everything is easy to get to and from

Scott was a great host. Accommodating and welcoming. Bed was comfortable and house nice and quiet. I was there looking at properties and he had some good advice too. Even some cute little frogs at the doorstep to welcome me home after dinner with friends. Thanks Scott!

Response from Scott:
Hello Ashley, Thank you for your comments. I'd just like to comment on a couple things myself. There have been quite a few comments about the breakfast and I understand that, but there is also a reason for that from a business perspective. Apart from one other B&B on Gabriola our rates (if you book through my website are $39 cheaper than the next cheapest B&B on the island and some of the others run all the way up to $179/night. Obviously for those prices I'd expect more selection but for $90/night it is going to be different (you paid the Airbnb rate). The problem trying to cater to every guests tastes is it creates two problems. The first concerns price itself, like a fresh loaf of bread for $6 which the guest might eat 1/4 of. What happens with the rest. I ensure there is fresh bread for each guest arrival, tack onto that local eggs which one guest thought would be nice, skimmed milk, more jams etc and soon my attractive price point is untenable. But that leads to my second issue, much of that which I could buy would go to waste. To be honest you're the first person to comment on the milk, though I believe you are right and there are others that would probably appreciate that as well. The problem is I spend the money and buy it, and if no one drinks it then it's poured down the sink. For those two reasons I keep the breakfast very simple, and I note that on my site, and for me to maintain my price point that's the way it will stay. As for the cross contamination of jam, valid point and I'll look into that. Must confess I haven't been in the habit of checking each jar after the guests have checked out to see what's gone on. So Ashley, I just wanted to share my thoughts as well. I hate to say it but many things simply boil down to price points. I believe in trying to offer customers a cheaper alternative to what else is available on the island but that obviously comes with certain constraints. Have a great weekend. Scott.
