About this listing

Tucked away in Puntallana Old Town, our traditional Canarian cottage offers an escape to the country. It's on the main walking route round La Palma island, and has a small supermarket, museum, chemist and some cafe-bars close by!

Extra people: No Charge

The space

This traditional Canarian cottage has high wooden ceilings and two terraces for sitting outside watching the world go by. There is one very large living/dining space, a new shower room with sink and toilet and a small, fully equipped kitchen, with hob, microwave, fridge/freezer. The bedroom has a double bed and fitted wardrobes, with a space over for storing luggage.

Guest access

Guests have access to the whole house and two terraces. It is very private.

Interaction with guests

Our contact on the island will meet guests to give recommendations on walks, restaurants, and advice on making the best of your stay on the island. She will also help out with any emergencies.

The neighbourhood

The cottage lies in the historical part of old Puntallana, above the spring of San Juan (St. John), where in the old times the women did their washing. On the 24th of June a procession is held to this spring from the church.
The neighbourhood feels very rural, even though there are amenities close at hand, such as a supermarket, a bus route, a chemist, a few bars, a museum, a Saturday market and a health centre. There is a little promenade below the house for an evening stroll and also a beautiful old church up in the town. We are about a 10-15 minute drive from Playa Nogales, a wild and beautiful beach and about 20 minutes from the airport. At night you can hear the frogs' chorus!

Getting around

We'd recommend hiring a car to get the best out of all that the island has to offer. However, guests can quite easily use the buses from a bus stop quite close to our house and there are taxis nearby. We are also on the main walking route around the island

Other things to note

There is a double sofabed in the living room, so a third person or couple could stay. Note that the walk down from where you park the car to the house is quite steep. Oh, and the jacaranda trees bloom in April/May - they are beautiful!

Christine's place is the perfect retreat for a romantic trip which also serves as a good base from where to explore the beautiful island of La Palma. Bed linen and towels were perfect plus there were even amenities in the bathroom, the kitchen is fully equipped, there are two terraces, a glorious fireplace and the house is in the old part of the charismatic village of Puntallana. We didn't meet Conny, Christine's contact in the island, but both of them were very attentive and willing to help us in case of need or if we had any question regarding the island itself and where to go. All of it makes for a great experience, you can't go wrong booking this place :)

The house is lovely and Christine and Ian are fantastic hosts. We did not meet them, but even before we arrived, they had sent us extensive and reliable information about the island (good places to eat, nice beaches, advice about hikes, opening times for shops and markets), and once we got there, a friend of theirs dropped by to welcome us. They provided a complementary bottle of wine, the kitchen had basic supplies, and Christine was also immediately responsive to questions we had during our stay. We would happily have stayed much longer and we’re already missing the two little geckos that live on the ceiling. The house is small but has a spacious, airy feeling. It’s been done up with obvious love and care, and is extremely comfortable. Windows on one side overlook a ravine, and on the other, give a view of the sea (and if you wake early, fantastic sunrises—one of the treats of our stay was watching the sun come up from behind Tenerife). There are two patios; we found ourselves eating breakfast outside every morning. Christine and Ian have also provided a selection of DVDs and novels, as well as maps of the island and leaflets of things to do. The house is a short drive (15 min max) from walks in the marvellous laurel forest and from what we found to be the island's most beautiful beach, by far, Playa Nogales. It's also less than 15 min drive from the capital, Santa Cruz. The village itself is not particularly exciting but it is quiet and pretty, with an obviously enthusiastic team of gardeners looking after the public spaces and making them pretty with flowers; it has a post office, a small supermarket, a weekly farmers’ market, and two bars, one of which serves food from early in the morning until late at night. You can get a simple meal here—it won’t blow you away, but it’s certainly no worse than most of the other places we tried on the island. (In general, we found La Palma better for astronomy than for gastronomy—though we had a superb meal at Charco Azul, a good one at El Canal (in Los Sauces), and a creative and delicious one at Puesta de Sol, near Fuencaliente.) We stayed here for several days at the end of our holiday—it was a perfect place to chill out before returning to work. If one day we are lucky enough to come back to La Palma, we would love to stay here again.

A perfect AIR BnB from start to finish! A beautiful little place in a tranquil and peaceful part of Puntallana. Great views of the Atlantic & Tenerife. Fantastic sunrises. The place is cute and comfortable. Bed comfy Hot water great. Amenities in house- we had everything we needed! Outside spaces beautiful. An easy walk uphill to the village / shop. What really made this place special was Christine's fantastic communication, helpful house guide and the huge amount of info available in the house about this lovely Island. To top this her contact here *Conny* popped round, suggested some great hikes/ resturants, gave us a walking map and even pre booked a taxi from Airport to Puntallana! Thanks Christine & Conny for making this trip so special! I'll happily come back!

Casa Jacaranda was a lovely getaway from the crowd and is very much an authentic place to experience the simplicity of La Palma. The host provided some very detailed information about the island which was a big help. in contrast to the other two places we stayed which were very hand's off. It is located on the edge of the village and handy for the local shop and a couple of bars. there are two balconies one looking out towards the sea. as stated a nice romantic hideaway

Christine's house is absolutely beautiful! The view from the terrace and the placement of the finca in the oldest street of the village just above the well is wonderful. So is also the interior - you'll feel instantly comfy and the fireplace is great! To communicate with Christine was always a delight, thanks a lot! There's really nothing to complain about - recommendation more than 100%!!! :-)

An absolute recommend. If you are looking for a romantic winter get-away, in a very atmospheric, clean house, pick this one. It has everything you are looking for, even a DVD player and washing machine. Contact with Christine and friendly Dutch host Conny was excellent.

We are an English couple, who fell in love with La Palma over 20 years ago. We enjoy walking, eating out and just spending time pottering around! When we are not on the island, we are at home in West London, where we like spending time with our friends and family.
