Welcome to our open and modern oceanfront home with stunning views and private 200' rocky beach, just 1 mile from town. This single-story family home has a gourmet kitchen, 5 BR, 3 full BA, an outdoor hot tub, and a huge deck to enjoy the view and watch whales, otters, sea lions, seals and eagles. Watch float planes at the nearby harbor and fishing boats glide by the house. There are five single kayaks available upon request. It's a great place for a romantic getaway or a family vacation!

The space

This family home combines the best of many worlds - fantastic views and ocean access with the convenience of an in-town location. It's a 2500-sf custom home with 200' of private rocky beach. Originally built in 1957, and completely gutted and remodeled in 2014, this home has all the modern amenities you might need. Perfect for the wildlife viewers, fishermen, or kayakers in your family! We have great access to all the activities you'd imagine, and at the end of the day you come home to an unparalleled view. If you don't like the sound of waves, try another listing. Please note that this is our family home: There will be some clothes in the closets, things in the dressers, and lots of basics in the kitchen pantry and cabinets. There will be space for visitors' belongings, but when this home isn't rented, we live here. The main benefit to guests is that the house is already stocked with all the staples you might need!

Guest access

Five single sea kayaks may be available upon request and with prior arrangement with the host. All equipment is also provided (life jackets, paddles, marine radio, paddle floats, etc.). Prior experience with sea kayaking is strongly encouraged as sea kayaking in Alaska can be dangerous. Kayak at your own risk.

Interaction with guests

This is our family home, so when you are here, we won't be here! Interaction with your host will be limited to none. We'll be out on our own adventures somewhere in the world! A local caretaker will be available.

Other things to note

The layout of the house will work with a variety of groups or a large family but this house is not suitable for small children as we are located directly on Mission Road (speed limit 25 mph) and there is a steep cliff to the beach (about 20 feet). The kitchen is fully equipped with a 6 burner gas commercial Viking range, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, coffeepot, electric kettle, and utensils and dishes. The master bedroom is situated at one end of the house and the four smaller bedrooms are at the other end. The master bedroom has a queen bed, flatscreen cable TV, and a private en-suite bathroom with a 4x5 walk-in shower with dual shower heads and heated towel bar. It also has sliding door to the deck. The four remaining bedrooms are all children's rooms and decorated as such. These four bedrooms share two full baths. The second bedroom has a full ocean view, a queen bed, and shares a full bath. The third bedroom is on the street side of the house and has a full bed and shares a full bath. The fourth bedroom is also on the street side of the house and has a full bed and shares a full bath. The fifth bedroom is on the street side of the house, has a queen bed, and shares a full bath. The house is right on the street with a 5' wooden fence separating the house from the road. You will hear road noise when cars pass by, however it's a quiet neighborhood and honestly, you spend all the time looking out at the ocean. There is a hot tub on the deck right outside the master bedroom. Other amenities include WiFi, cable TV, a gas grill and lots of outdoor seating, a stairway to the rocky beach below, and access to five single sea kayaks (with prior arrangement with host).

There is a fire pit with 6 Adirondack chairs and an ocean view. Everything you need for a bonfire is included (wood, fire starters, skewers, and gas lighters).

Noise: Please respect our home and our neighbors. If you are planning to to have a loud party or gathering, this is not the house. It's a quiet & friendly community. 10:00 pm is the cut of time for any excessively loud noise. The house sleeps 8 comfortably.

We had a wonderful time. We had an otter that swam by each morning and evening. There is a furnace room right outside the front door. It was great for drying our clothes as it rained most of our trip. The ocean view was lovely and relaxing. The water pressure in the house is amazing. It is a perfect house for a family vacation.

We are a bit new to Airbnb. This summer we rented a home in Santa Monica for a few months and Jennifer's home in Kodiak for a week. Although our experience in Santa Monica has been good Jennifer's home was incredible. Jennifer was a fantastic host. She thought of everything including a stroller and crib for our baby. She had every supply we needed and the home was immaculately kept. We felt like it was our own for our four children and having kids you can imagine how hard that is. The house was a dream. The Bald Eagles flew over the house all day. Otters and Sea Lions paraded by and we were able to watch it all from the living room. My only regret is that we are unlikely to get a chance to go back to Kodiak. Thank you Jennifer for making it seamless and one of the greatest memories for our family.

Thank you so much for your kind review Roman. I think this is exactly how Airbnb is supposed to work! It should feel like home for another family! We are so glad you enjoyed our house. Although we love traveling, it's so nice to come home to the view and the wildlife. Take care and hope you and your family continue to have great adventures on airbnb! Jennifer

Our stay at Jennifer's house was even better than we expected. The listing and pictures were very accurate. It was as beautiful as promised. The kitchen was even better equipped than my own kitchen. The Panini maker was put to good use. Plenty of room for the 6 of us. Having kayaks available was a huge bonus. The only minor difficulty was the hot water heater seemed pretty small. We did have to stagger our showers but once we figured that out, it wasn't a big deal. Would definitely stay there again.

Response from Jennifer:
Thanks Jeri! Glad you had a great time! We love the panini maker also - and watching the sea lions and boats. It never gets old! Sorry you had challenges with hot water. We are looking into installing a on demand heater this year. Thanks again for your kind comments! Jennifer

The house was not only as lovely as shown on the sight, but even more fantastic in person!!! Wonderful location, with enough privacy from the town to feel peaceful, but also within a reasonable walking distance to food and activities.

This is a lovely house quite suitable for a family gathering. The views of the ocean scenery from the very long deck are spectacular! The kitchen is large and very well equipped. We found everything we needed for some rather complicated menus. The very spacious open kitchen, dining, living room made having the whole family together a pleasure, and the views from the living area and master bedroom are all over the deck and ocean. Kodiak is a great place to visit for those interested in outdoor activities, and the town has some most interesting museums centered of Kodiak history, the native peoples of the region, and the National Wildlife Refuge home of the great Brown Bear. We spent a truly magical week here.

This house was fantastic, the veiws are unbelievable! Kayaking was great and the water on three of our four days was flat calm. The suggestions of what to do were good. Our bear trip was so good that we felt like we didn't need to do the rest of our trip.

Kayaking, hiking and climbing are among my favorite things to do. I work as an high school history teacher here in Kodiak, so we have lots of time to travel. Our favorite places always have amazing views, and that's one of the reasons we host on Airbnb. Our home has a stunning view of ocean and mountains. We are happy to share our piece of Alaska with you!
