There are beautiful walks from the cottage alongside the River Duddon. The valley is unspoilt and frequented by a variety of wildlife. A short drive takes you to Ash Bank where you can park with mountain paths leading towards the valley of Coniston and the "Old Man". Coniston has local shops, museums and you can also take the steam gondala to enjoy the lake from a different perspective. For those more adventurous, you can drive into the heart of the National Park towards Ambleside and Grasmere by following the breath taking Wyrnose Pass. Or test your driving skills by taking the Hardnott Pass (highest road in England!) as you head into Eskdale valley towards the Scafell mountain range. From Ravenglass you can board the steam railway to take in the spectacular scenery on a seven mile line. Or enjoy a day out exploring Muncaster Castle with its idyllic gardens.

If you are looking to eat out locally, Newfield Inn is within walking distance a mile away or the Blacksmith Arms, a short drive over Stickle Pike to Broughton Mills.

Heading out of the Valley to the West, lies Broughton-in-Furness a historical market town providing the nearest shopping opportunity. In the quaint central square you will find a tourist information centre and cafe. There is a butchers, bakery, post office, several pubs and an old fashioned petrol station.

Having moved to the Lake District in 2020, much of my time recently has been spent with family renovating High Bridge End. Previously working for a building society in busy town locations, life in the Duddon Valley is one I hope to enjoy!
