Thimble Cottage is the quintessential tiny chocolate-box cottage with a picket fence and roses around the front door. Built in 1760 from local brick ,flint and bags of character and located at the heart of The South Downs in the picturesque village of Singleton near Goodwood, close to the spot where William Blake was inspired to write his famous anthemic poem ‘Jerusalem ‘, and only a few paces from our village pub The Partridge Inn , which serves delicious food and fine beverages.

Thimble Cottage radiates charm . A tiny cosy mid-terrace cottage with underfloor heating if needed for the colder months ( as well as radiators and a wood burning stove ) and a pretty west facing garden to sit in and enjoy a quiet read or glass of wine in the evening sunshine during the Summer months.

Located 300m from The Weald & Downland Museum where the BBC series ‘ The Repair Shop’ is filmed. One mile from Goodwood Racecourse , consistently voted the most beautiful racecourse in the world . Three miles from the Settings for the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival motor events. 800m from West Dean college for the Arts with wonderful gardens and gift shops. Chichester is 6 miles away with a wonderful choice of beaches just beyond , especially West Wittering. Midhurst , an old market town famous for its Polo at Cowdray is only 5 miles north. And within a 20 minute drive you can reach the picturesque towns of Petworth and Arundel. For walkers and cyclists , it all starts from the front door as you are located right at the heart of the South Downs with access to many cycle and public footpaths in order to explore the most tree covered county in Britain packed full of flora and fauna ….not to mention some excellent Country pubs !

I live near Goodwood and Chichester in the village of Halnaker , a Roman name which means ' Half-naked' and was the term the Romans gave to this area because it served as the staging post for their weary or 'half-knackered ' horses travelling along Stane Street ( the first stone road in Britain ) between Portsmouth and London. It seems only fitting I continue in the footsteps of history by welcoming today's travelers to my cottage arriving by horse-power seeking relaxation and refreshments !
