Meet your hosts! We are Roger and Julie and we live outside of Nashville, Tennessee. We have four children and a dog and both work from home.
Roger grew up in Kinshasa, Congo and Johnson City, Tennessee, then played soccer at Messiah College in Pennsylvania. He then moved around a bit while coaching college soccer, eventually landing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he met Julie.
Julie grew up outside of Cleveland, Ohio, decided on Centre College in Kentucky so she could play volleyball, and took her first job in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Not long after we married, we decided to move to Nashville, Tennessee and fell in love with the area! We’ve lived in Franklin for almost 17 years, and have watched it grow from a blossoming small town to a city that’s exploding!
Roger has always loved the outdoors and led experiential education groups in the wilderness when he was in his 20’s and 30’s. As college students, we both loved working at summer camps in the Laurel Highlands, outside of Pittsburgh and built a deep appreciation for the peace and joy that comes when you spend time in nature.
During the summer of 2020, we learned about The Retreat at Water’s Edge in Tracy, City, Tennessee and jumped at the opportunity to own a tiny home in the community; a place where our family could retreat from the busyness of our every day lives, unplug from school, work and technology and connect with each other.
We believe in ambition, goals and hard work, but we also believe in rest, recreation and the importance of slowing down.
Sometimes it feels like a sacrifice to take time away from our busy schedules, our jobs or even our families. However, when we’ve worked hard, gone through a difficult season, or kept a busy schedule, it’s important to carve out time to sleep, eat, play, laugh and relax; and we call that ‘time well wasted’.
