(1) Nature
Although the unit is located in town you are with walking distance to the Hunter's Bay walking trail, downtown, Muskoka Heritage Place, the town dock, restaurants and the Avery public beach.
(2) Various Trails
A section of the Trans Canada Trail is located close to the unit and it stretches clear across Canada. It is recognized as the longest multi-use trail system in the world.
At a more local level we have Arrowhead Provincial Park (7km North from the apartment on Hwy#11) with a delightful trail, beaches on the lake and available canoe rentals among other pastimes.
A little further out of town on Hwy#60 you’ll find a diamond in the ruff, the Limberlost Forest Reserve. This hidden gem is not known to the out of towner but a local gem you wont want to miss.
Further down Hwy #60 is the world renowned Algonquin Provincial Park with its many day and overnight hiking trails.
Additionally, a mountain bike trail, opening to the public this October with the usual challenges for a trail of this nature is located at Hidden Valley just 5km outside of town. It is being provided by the municipality and others on a gratis basis. Use it for the challenges a trail like this provides or just to walk through it and be amazed by the obstacles a rider will encounter.
(3) G8 Parkette
A unique Canadian honour for the Town of Huntsville, at a global level, was to host the G8 World Leaders Summit Conference in 2010. Within a ten minute walk (at the NE intersection of West Rd. and Centre St. N) from the apartment an official public parkette is maintained by the municipality having all of the participating country’s flag on their own assigned flag pole and a plaque. The parkette has some Muskoka chairs and bench for sitting with a lovely flower garden around it and an open grassed area. A nice picture taking location to send to friends at home.
(4) Mural Walk
For people interested in Canadian art history an outdoor art museum featuring reproductions of some well known artists from an earlier time and part of Huntsville history is on display year round. A number of the now famous Canadian artists referred to as the Group of 7 used Huntsville as their staging area to celebrate the natural beauty of the Muskoka and Algonquin areas producing some of the most iconic art work that Canada is famous for. Throughout Huntsville a public display of their works in the form of a Mural Collection can be enjoyed. Look online for guided details of this unique outdoor public art gallery.
(5) Muskoka Heritage Place - pioneer village
Another unique and interesting look into the past is Muskoka Heritage Place, a real pioneer village. Also located on the same property is the Portage Flyer steam train available for rides along Muskoka's waters edge. Muskoka Heritage Place is located in town about a five minute drive from the apartment.
(6) Algonquin Theatre
The Algonquin Theatre typically hosts some amazing Canadian talent. We highly recommend you visit their website to see the outdoor shows they have lined up this year.
(7) Eateries/Restaurants
There are many good restaurants in and around Huntsville ranging from East Asian to Indian, and European right up to the typical American dinner plate. Of course for a quick bite most of the fast food classics are represented in the area.
As a treat for the beer connoisseur there are some interesting boutique brewers in the area, Lake of Bays Brewery and Canvas Brewery. And of course there are some nice pubs around town in which to.
(8) Getting Around
Getting around town is probably easiest with a car when going to most venues, however, there are two taxi companies, Al's Taxi and Independent Taxi.
