Description

The space

Staying on board of a more than 100 year old sailing ship is a special experience. The ship is still sailing at the IJsselmeer end the Waddenzee during the summer. It's an old freight ship with a whole lot of history...

You can book one or more beds/cabins, but there may be other guests on board (max. 16).
So you probably will share the mess room, the 2 showers and the 2 toilets with other guests.
If you want to book the whole ship I can send you an offer. Just contact me.

Guest access

You can spend your time in the mess room, use the kitchen for making coffee or tea and the fridge for your drinks.
In summer you can enjoy the sun on deck in a hanging chair or just sitting on a bench.

Interaction with guests

As host and captain of the ship I'm interested in people and the stories they tell. I live on board and share the ship with the guests.

The neighbourhood

The ship is moored in the beautiful old harbor town Enkhuizen. There are more traditional ships around and especially in summer you can watch the life at all those ships around you... arriving and leaving, handling their sails...

Getting around

Free parking: about 500 m from the ship
Train station: about 200 m from the ship
Enkhuizen is 1 hour by train from Amsterdam. The train leaves twice an hour.
In summer there is a ferry from Enkhuizen to Stavoren.

Other things to note

There may be other guests on board. In that case you will share the mess room, the showers and the toilets.

House Rules

I expect respectful behavior towards other guests. I do not accept any drugs on board. Drunken people have to leave.

Staying on Sandra's ship was a wonderful experience. I am so glad I did it. The ship is beautiful and in excellent condition. It is comfortable and clean. Sandra is a warm, interesting and friendly host and made me so welcome. Her breakfasts were fabulous. The ship cat was an extra bonus. I wholeheartedly recommend Sandra as a host. I was travelling on my own and this was a highlight of my trip.

Being in Enkhuizen was like living a dream. I spent 5 nights on Sandra's beautiful ship, the Windbruid. I have visited Enkhuizen a year earlier and only ever dreamed of being able to stay there. Luckily, I was able to find very affordable accommodation (almost too affordable for the quality of stay she provides...) and being on one of the traditional Dutch sailing shops, there was no decision to even consider. When I was staying there, Sandra provided breakfast for me almost every morning - even at very unreasonable early hours because of my schedule. She even shared her lunches and dinners with me and was always open to offering tea or coffee throughout the day. I only have met so many people in my life who are so honest, caring, and just enjoy life on the water as simply as Sandra does. Also, if you enjoy having a pleasant conversation, and learning about life in Enkhuizen, or just to share your own stories, Sandra will be open to it (we even stayed up very late doing so). Even in the chill of the Dutch winter and coastal winds, I still enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of Enkhuizen. I recommend to take a walk through the lovely town, and then making the voyage by walking, running, or biking to the precious De Ven lighthouse north of the town. I promise I will return again!

We had a wonderful stay in Sandra's boat, it was a truly unique experience. Sandra herself made us feel very welcome and was fun to chat with. Learned a bit about boating, Dutch history, and the best places to go eat in town. A great breakfast and a cute cat just rounded out our stay.
